Extremely short notice but can anyone recommend a town/city to stay at please?..........We live in West Yorkshire so don't want to trave too far as it is only for a couple of days.
The short version is that I felt that it would be a really good idea to go away at short notice for a break away from the stresses of everyday life.
My Partner's Dad died very recently so though it would be nice to try and go away to chill.:dft005:
Was thinking the lakes/North Yorkshire or maybe somewhere totally different if someone really loved a certain place.
Our usual chill out places are York/Keswick but the other half fancies trying somewhere new. Fancied Edinburgh but seems really dear.
I just need to keep him entertained so no really quiet villages. Some nice traditional shops, pubs, history would be great 😉
Thank you all so much x x x:hug:
Have you considered lincoln, there are numerous museums, free entry, the cathederal and castle. The uphill shopping area is the bailgate which is the castle /cathederal area and down hill are High street and St marks. A lot of recent investment arond the brayford pool with the university, odeon cinema and various eateries and night life venues. Lincoln also has Ghost walks and an open top bus ride ( weather not guaranteed lol). There is a canal linking the Brayford pool in the west to various locations in the east of the city. an extensive network of cycle paths or short ealks along the river witham to establishemnts selling various intoxicating liquids and home cooked food.
Several leisure centres, 2 x 10 pin bowling alleys and river cruises, rowing boat hire ................theatre.......live music at the Engine shed and Drill hall..................
OMG I might even go into town myself it sounds great

For me, it's Liverpool :043: I was up there last year, and rented an apartment ( far better than a B+B, with washing machine/toilet rolls etc !) which was as cheap as chips.:D
There was plenty to do, such as visiting the Maritime museum and the people were really friendly. The train station is a stone's throw from the city centre, and there is river Mersey ferry rides too.

let me know before you decide and I can tell you if what you are thinking is nice area etc, there is a new holiday inn called city centre about 4 months old , uphill area is nicer but bit more expensive
Gonna sleep on it as got huge headache n getting stressed bout finding somewhere. Not like me to get this stressed but a good nights sleep will help.
Thanks everyone - hope to report back with good news 🙂
Come to Chester! Cathedral, ancient city walls to walk, a river to have a boat ride on, good shopping centre, loads of nice cafes/tea rooms, plenty of pubs. Plus, 15 minutes to the Cheshire Oaks retail outlet or 30 minutes and you're in North Wales.
And ofcourse there's me!!!😀
And a great zoo!
Or if you fancy a day at the races -
PS. And Fleur has just reminded me about Delamere Forest on the outskirts of Chester -
Ah, Chester was the one I thought of - really enjoyed a visit there some years ago but didn't know what it was like now.
Wherever you go - have a lovely relaxing fun time! 🙂
The apartment idea sounds great, Calla Lilly. Did you find it on a website?

Yes, i did Lumiere 🙂 I never knew they existed until I was googling for hotels and it came up.:D
The great thing about them is that the price is not based pp, but how many people the apartment can accommodate. I think mine was roughly £60-70 a night for a 2 bed apartment, based on 4 and it was great- bedding, towels, washing up products and even shower gel were inclusive too! 😀 From what I remember, a lot of the big cities have apartments and it's exactly like living in your own home, where I could come and go as I pleased.
