Hello,

Does anyone know of a good beach in the UK? My definition of a good beach is, a beach which is not excessively populated with people (nothing worse than a crowded beach), preferably a beach which looks untouched by humans... I have found an amazing beach in Scotland which fits the bill, but that is too far for a 1 day trip. I live in London.

Any suggestions, also I think I am asking for something which is impossible close to London.

Lots on the north Norfolk coast - try Wells next the sea, Brancaster etc etc

Look at http://www.tournorfolk.co.uk/beaches.html for further info - some lovely places and not too bad a drive out from London as fairly good roads the greater part of the way.

Enjoy!

Dungenness (South Coast) and Walberswick (Suffolk - East Coast). All very atmospheric and interesting. You could also try some of the more deserted North Norfolk beaches such as Thornham (nice walk over the salt marshes first though), or Holkham Beach - used in the last scene of the film Shakespeare in Love. It all depends on the type of beach you want. None will be completely deserted though.

Thanks for the replies.

I am after something like this beach.

Here is some info about it

What I am after is solitude (or as close as possible to solitude) for a day, sand, and sea. But Scotland is too far.

Hi Caster, I don't think you are going to find the solitude you desire unless you go out of season. Camber sands out of season isn't bad and easily accessible from London, if you get bored then you can go into nearby Rye Harbour. There are some quite good beaches in Kent, like Broadstairs and parts of Whitstable are OK although they are mostly pebble. Pevensey Bay is another good one. But again, you would have to go out of season to get the solitude.
