Just had my ITEC massage mock exam tonight. We had a different tutor and I was quite excited to get new feedback. My usual tutor is very positive about my my massage technique and I was pretty confident having practiced lots and having some great massage sessions. I wanted both positive and negative feedback to get me prepared for the real one.

The lady who assessed us tonight ripped me to shreds on the basis of my appearance. I am bit overweight and not as dainty as the other girls on my course. However I am very clean and presentable and would not dream of attending class not looking MY best. During the massage she watched me much more than the other students and afterwards told me to loose weight and said that I would loose loads of marks for my appearance in the exam.

She is a health and beauty tutor and I understand her perspective is different, but I am now terrified I will fail my exam for not being a health and beauty dollybird!

Will this cause me to fail or am I now being paranoid?

What a cheek! I'm also overweight, have been working as a therapist for the past three years and have no trouble getting clients. As long as you are clean and presentable and are a good communicator as well as being a good therapist, I don't think you will have any trouble.

I have had many clients who are new to therapies and may be a bit self conscious about their bodies, who I'm sure feel much more comfortable with me treating them, than someone with a model figure. That's not to say that slim people can't be good therapists either!!

The nerve of the woman, [&:]

Please don't let this knock your confidence, or make you paranoid.

I don't have a model figure and when l was training very few of the other students did either, and it didn't affect our exam results.

As Lesley said

Couldn't agree more...

Keep smiling,

hugs

Not only should you ignore what this nasty woman said but I think you should make a complaint, she shouldn't be able to get away with saying things like that!

her comments are way too personal and subjective. i think they say more about her than you. she obviously has issues with her body. take heart and don't take her comments on board. good luck - you'll do great!
