RE: I Can Do Science, Me!
Before the Jurassic period, the world spun west-east on it's axis, so that the Sun rose in the western sky.
Hi Patsy : How do they know that - and then what happened and why?
The River Nile flows backwards.
- How? Is it more than tidal? What's going on?
And Caveman - in whose opinion do beetles taste like apples etc? Is there some sort of consensus from "I'm a celeb" or something?
Blimey, I came in to post a healing thread and now my head hurts!
Great thread!

What confuses me is when did the earth stop spinning as presumably it would have to, to then turn round and start spinning the other way? Or did it flip upside down?

Why is wet stuffdarker?
"When a material gets wet and absorbs water, the material's index of refraction is effectively changed, making it so that more light penetrates and less light is reflected."
Actually, anyone know why white materials go transparent when wet? They are surely the easiest to darken?

You answered it youself.
"When a material gets wet and absorbs water, the material's index of refraction is effectively changed, making it so that more light penetrates and less light is reflected."
When the white thing gets wet, more light penetrates through it, so if it's clothing then the light goes through and reflects off the skin behind rather than the material itself, that's why you see the skin colour through the fabric rather than the fabric itself.
