Hi Guys,
Thought this was interesting for us that think we sometimes 'connect with Shusssh...you know who' 🙂

The scientifically held belief that the human brain contains a “God Spot” that is claimed to supposedly be responsible for our inherent feelings of the mystical & religious - is now being questioned by a recent study.

The new study’s findings seem to show that the described mystical ‘unions’ experienced by some… uses a number of regions of the brain that cover functions like emotion, body representation and self-consciousness and included areas that cover happiness, romantic love and maternal love.

The study was conducted by enlisting the services of Carmelite Nuns

Thanks, Roger. I don't even need to see the links - though in future they may be interesting points to direct people to. I always knew the idea was ridiculous.

The "God Spot" hypothesis is IMO a desperate bid by atheist scientists to 'explain' mystical experiences. 'Desperate' being the key word!

One day, scientists will realise that intelligence does not come from grey matter under the skull.

THis reminds me of a poem called Psalm of Peace - here's a bit of it:

The warriors boast:
"We have disproved God -
We have bubbled our test-tubes
- and God is not in the test-tubes.
We have shattered the atom
- and God is not in the atom.
We have catalogued man
- and God is not in man,
Whose life is protoplasm,
Whose body is a machine,
Whose brain is a computer,"
-and we fear they speak true.

Let the blind disprove the sunlight!
The deaf deny the ocean's roar!
Shall God indeed crouch in an atom?
The Almighty skulk in an atom?
The All-knowing heed mortal heads?
Un-think His universe?
Un-say His world?
Un-love His children?

C'mon Judy,

That's just your "God Spot" speaking. 😉

As for:

This was once an abiding interest of mine. It still is, but over years I've become rusty on the facts. Fact is, the "self" cannot be located anywhere in the brain. "We" just ain't in that lump of meat. Psychologists have probed and experimented for decades, and the only thing you find in the brain are areas for sending signals to the rest of the body - such as to lift an arm - and areas for receiving signals - such as what we see or hear. And so on. There is no area of the brain whatsoever that can be called, say, "where the person is". It's actually not heretical for top scientists to say this at all. Sir John Eccles has been a brilliant champion of the fact that the self is not in the brain, for example.

I see the brain as a 2-way "radio". Through it, the non-physical self receives impressions of physical sights, sounds, etc., and through it, the non-physical self directs quantum events which trigger the brain to move the body.

Actually, how could a totally non-physical self do this? It couldn't. In philosophy that's pure Cartesian dualism - that Spirit and matter exist but are different. In reality IMHO the self is "semi"-physical: it has form, but not as atoms. But it can trigger quantum events throughout the brain.

That's what the brain is for! It's why it is so complex. It's a complex 2-way radio.

Yes, I agree about the "self". One just has to read the many near death experiences and indisputable things like when someone died in hospital and had a wander around the room while the doctors were trying to revive her. She not only read the notes at the end of her bed, but also could tell them what was on the top of a cupboard. There was another woman who was killed in a hit and run car crash. The car was overturned and she was trapped underneath. She left her body and saw the number plate of the fleeing car!

I had an out of body experience once, following a healing through prayer. It was very clear to me that who I am and my thought processes had nothing to do with that body of matter lying below me on the bed. The other thing I noticed was the perfect clarity that I was seeing with - and my glasses (and eyes!) were down there too! 😮

I know that mine was not a hallucination, (the healing was tangible proof of that for a start) as after I came back down and re-entered my body, I was weightless and without any material sensation at all for about two hours and this feeling of walking-on-air persisted for about two days afterwards.

One day, scientists will arrive at this understanding too - they are on the right track with the discovery of quantum physics.
