Unless Shaunm means the old-fashioned Freudian idea in psychology, in which the Id is part of the personality (he said)?

I'ma littlepuzzled by shaunm's post. He posted in Philosophy on the same topic quite recently. I replied there with a link to the long earlier thread here in Science, which he said he'd read and found interesting. Perhaps the meaning and origin weren't in the earlier thread, orhe wants to open the discussion further?

Sorry for the confusion, though I found it interesting to read peoples thoughts on the subject, I was after some hard facts about the Scientific origin of ID and the definition. Where did the theory come from, science or religion?
The reason I wrote it here was in response to the reply from Songstress on the philosophy bit.
I hope this clarifies my question, sorry again for the confusion.
