Hi Graham
I just phoned my local council and all they can suggest is that I take them to the dump which is quite a long way away - and I don't have transport. It's proving really difficult to find out what I can do with them which is not too inconvenient. In the past I'm afraid I've just chucked them in the black bin bag along with the other rubbish but my conscience won't let me do that any more.
Love

Sunanda - long shot but people are always asking for things like empty ink cartridges, mobile phone batteries etc. on Freecycle - why not see if your local group has a freecycle cafe and ask if people know of anywhere more suitable on there.

I love the fact that people are getting more eco friendly. Rechargeable batteries are so much better, but if you do have to use the regular, i do applaud the effort to have them recycled.
Recycling batteries and lightbulbs
Hi all,
Been meaning to mention that last time I was in Ikea, near the customer services bit, there was a bank of recycling bins and two of them were for batteries and energy-saving lightbulbs. Thought I'd let peeps know as it is a convenient place to drop them off (if you can tolerate the big blue and yellow place, or know an Ikea-junkie who goes there).

Thanks Catherine. I do go to Ikea (sometimes). Must admit that I have never noticed recycling bins in my branch but will have a look next time. I am still hanging on to those spent batteries - just can't bring myself to put them in the bin. B ut I have now invested in rechargeables.
One other thing - Robert Dyas in the Strand (London) will take used Brita filters. Not sure about the other branches.
