hi in the last few weeks i have really got my recyling head on, i decided that i would look at everythingi put in the bin and asked myself can it go into the green box, well to start with i filled one green box , i asked the council for another and i can fill that so now i can actually go two weeks before i get my bin emptied . i was really surprised at just how much waste we have but now i feel that i am doing my bit infact now anything i have i try to recyle it old clothes go to charity shops and to me they are the best place to go if you want to help the planet you are buying recyled goods and you never know what goodies you can find. now though when hubby goes to put anything in the bin he hears me shout put it in the recyle bin how many others like me
Yes I am getting pretty good at this recycling and find that the family are slowly getting the hang of it.... my husband has surprised me with his efficency. My Mum keeps popping in with jars, cardboard and even her unwanted mail so I can sort the envelopes out and remove the plastic windows, and shred her name and address. I use the shredded paper in the garden composter. Mum also brings up her veggie/fruit peelings to go into the composter. The only member of the family who is taking a little more persistant training is my eighteen year old son, but I will persevere!!

At home, the council had initially not provided recycling bins. So my partner hounded them till they finally did. We had expected the sort of bins given to any group of buildings, as we live in a flat. And we were still delighted when we got little individual bins instead, one for each flat. Everyone in the flats took recycling up with gusto, but the recyclying was rarely collected, despite frequent calls and complaints. Strangers started coming into the beautiful garden area in front of the flats, and dumped their rubbish where the overflowing recycling bins were. More complaints. Still rare collections at unpredictable days, which meant that the remaining few recyclers just kept their recycling boxes now permanently out. This attracted more rubbish. Then strangers started coming and parking their cars on our private road, and one car was dumped there. Before we knew it, this haven of tranquility had attracted all sorts. So we took action. Most of us stopped recycling, as it was only serving to attract rubbish and trouble. We fought away the undesirable elements and are working on getting a company to sort out the illegal parking.
It's nice now to look at the garden area and see order restored. However, we are all keen to recycle and hope one day the council will see sense.
At the clinic in the City, there is only one recycling bin provided, and it's only for paper. It gets full up very quickly, so about half the time, we just have to throw the paper in the bin.
ON TV, they say people don't want to recycle. I think it's more a case of facilities not being available.
We recycle so much of our stuff we hardly need the normal waste bin.
If the council decides to start recycling film packaging and cat-kill (mice, rats, etc.) then we'll be able to do away with it altogether. 😉
