Does anyone know where I can send my used AA batteries for recycling, breaking down? I know some councils run schemes, but our council doesn't so now I don't know what to do with them.
We do usually use rechargeables, but occasionally get caught short and have to buy normal ones or sometimes batteries come with something we've bought. I've let them build up in a little pile at home because I didn't want to just put them in the bin.
Any ideas?
Hi
All of our Tesco's in Swansea recycle batteries instore. Would have thought it was a nationwide initiative. Try your local store to see if they do 🙂

Our nearest Tescos isn't very local... I just read that Sainsburys give out special envelopes for recycling batteries. Whether it's all of them or just a few I don't know, but I'll pop into my local on my way home tonight and see if they've got them.
Also just read on a recycling site that... 'Batteries are considered hazardous to the environment and should therefore not be disposed through current household waste or landfilled.'
I suspect that most people do just throw them in the bin though, given that it's not immediately obvious what else to do with them.
I just phoned my local Tesco, which is quite big, and they don't do it. I tried to get through to the next nearest which is even bigger and they're not answering the phone!
