Hi

I watched it ( strange choice of presenter i thought ) but i think it was ok like most programmes it was bringing attention to things that you dont really have to know. I found the figures at the end a bit strange as they could not explain why one had increased and not decreased and then mentioned it could be food. They could have made it on about 5 mins i thought just telling us that man made chemicals are all around you and can be harmful in large quantities.

i will probable watch next week though

There was also a recent article which suggested eco-cover tests its products on animals - algae (otherwise known as daphnia). Eco-cover argued that algae are not exactly 'animals' but I guess it's a matter of opinion.

Ecover agreed to remove the Vegan Society labelling from it's products as the vegan society discovered they tested their products using daphnia. It is not Ecovers opinion that they are not animals, but they are not listed by the EU as animals and therefore not strictly animal testing according to EU standards. However the Vegan society take it as being all life forms, so that's why that happened. The reason they test on those 'creatures' is so that they can say that their products are safe for the environment and do not effect our waterways. It's an odd one, because if the products are safe for the waterways and are not harming these creatures then does it really matter that they are being used in the tests?

Surely they are only safe for humans to use, after the tests have been done. It doesn't mean that there aren't earlier versions of the products (not released to the market) that were actually harmful to waterways, which the testing established.

 I am so pleased this subject was aired on a mainstream channel. Have recorded it for my daughter who has an equally 'impressive' collection of lip glosses as one of the sisters in the programme.

I'm always pleased when this information is aired as I have been telling people for over seven years about toxins in toiletries, make-up and household products. I wasn't very impressed with the alternatives that Sarah Beeny gave to the girls, though, as they took some time to get used to. The ones I use are much more like the conventional versions but are completely toxin-free and environmentally friendly.

I look forward to seeing next week's episode.

What about the tooth past that you use that have toxins and the soap that you use and the shampoo that you use , they all have toxins

Thank you for the interesting thread guys 🙂

We don't have t.v. and so missed this one, although I have heard for a while now about the perils of palm oil! Even Nairns beloved organic oatcakes contain palm oil! We've now taken to making our own.

Most depressing is the indifference and ignorance of people featured in these programs. Sadly, they are not the minority. Despite good labelling of cosmetics and toilettries (listing weird and dubious chemicals), people don't really care what they put on their skin. They believe it's only a topical application yet they don't realise that the skin absorbs and lots of unwanted stuff is getting into the bloodstream.

I don't know if people, who watched that program, have woken up and now take action. I guess they just keep buying their Johnson & Johnson and designer cosmetics full of nasties. And how naive is it to believe that only by reading 'natural' on the packaging, the product is healthy? Laughable, really.

Anyway, hopefully this program will have made a difference. The choice of presenter may have helped as she's quite popular, so she may have increased ratings.

on the palm oil and oat cake front. there is a new brand out now that uses olive oil instead of palm oil. i found them in tesco but couldnt find them in sainsburys as yet. cant remember the brand but they were nice and i will certainly be only buying those from now on!
