Hi all
I dont know about you but I am needing to find good quality products more and more these days with all the contaminents around in the world today. I believe I have found a really good range for all the families needs now. Has anyone heard of Melaleuca? Products for your health, your skin, your hygene and for you household needs! A lot of them are based on the famous 'tea tree' esssential oil and all its benefits and what is isn't based on this all the products are based on good quality ingriedients that dont have nasty side effects like cancer causing and skin irritations etc.
I have been using these products now for four years and I have completely changed all my known grocery store products to these and I have never regreted it. I just wondered if any of you folks out there have ever used these or other products like them and what you found good about them?

Regards
Kay

Try
Bio D
Ecover
Natural House

They are all good eco and effective cleaning products.
Or just use vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice and water.

Me too! All too often with eco friendly products I have found they are expensive and ineffective but the Ecover range are not badly priced and work really well, as well as being environmentally friendly. They are easy to find as well, in fact most of their products are stocked in Oxfam shops.

For household cleaning, I use white vinegar, lemons, salt, borax and bicarbonate of soda for pretty much every job that needs doing. Used to use Ecover but it's miles, as well as its price, make it too expensive. I have come across a laundry powder called "Simply" ) which isn't massively expensive and is produced in the UK, so it's carbon footprint is less than Ecover, which originally comes from Belgium (although they do now have facitilities in the UK)

I use Bio D and Wikaniko

I get mine from here

They sell soap nuts too but I've not been brave enough to try them yet - I'd been very interested to hear from anyone who has

Ecover are very bad news nowadays

I've just mentioned this on another thread but they now use GM ingredients in many of their products, they lost their vegan soceity approval last year after doing animal experiments and using animal ingredients.
😡

I've tried them and wasn't that impressed with them to be honest. Some stains were still visible on light coloured products, including towels.

I'm going to try the soap balls next. I was going to try Ecover but need to look into the statements made above about them using GM products.

Do your self made products last? Or do you have to make up each time? In what ratio or doesn't it matter?

Thanks!

Can someone post a link to where the info regarding Ecover and GM products is? I haven't been able to find anything about it. Thanks.

Okay - I found something on Ethical Consumer's website. I've posted it here in case anyone else is interested:

Ecover did not respond to Ethical Consumer's request in February 2012 for the company's policy on GM ingredients. The company's website included a page about the use of genetically modified enzymes in its detergents. "When Ecover started to use enzymes we were able to obtain them from manufacturers who guaranteed the GMO free production process as well as the necessary safety and health measures both during the production process as well as during the use of the enzymes in our products afterwards. To obtain these safety standards, enzymes are encapsulated, so that their power is released in the washing process and not before. Over the years however our sources have either been acquired by larger companies or they have modified their production processes by which GMO has entered our world. Today the enzymes themselves are generated from a micro organism that has undergone modification to increase its capacity to produce the enzyme. There is no modification to the enzymes produced and the micro organism is not modified to undertake a task that it was not designed for – this process could be likened to artificial insemination where the rate of fertilization is increased. However none of the other characteristics of both the micro organism and its protein are modified in any way that would not occur naturally. " Ecover was looking for an alternative source for its enzymes.

By the way, in the Ethical Consumer guide to washing up liquids, Bio D and Faith in Nature come out best (17 out of 20). Ecover has 11 out of 20.

Hi!

I also try to use only eco friendly products but sometimes its really hard to find bacause most of them is still just says "I am eco friendly" but the ingredients says sthing else... But now I started to use a salt soap which I really love it helps to keep moisturized your skin but if you have oily skin itsa also perfect. I post a pic from the soap! It worth a try! :027:
