RE: Thoughts on Like attracts Like
Thanks Darren, I know what you mean...I'm wondering if perhaps the meaning behind somone else acting as a mirror into ourselves has been taken a bit out of context by some people in recent years.....[&:]

RE: Thoughts on Like attracts Like
Hi Amy
First I have to say that I think 'like attracts like' is a different concept from seeing someone as a mirror to yourself. I'd like to give you an example of the mirror idea.
Years ago, I invited a young Australian girl to come and stay with me if she ever came to England. Well, she took me up on my offer and spent two months chez moi. This was a big challenge for me as I was not used to sharing my space but as I had just started out on my spiritual path and she was able to help and encourage me in many ways, I did the best I could. However as time went by I started to get more and more irritated with her - until it struck me that the things that were annoying me were all things that I did myself, such as leaving cassettes out of their cases and minor things like that. This realisation made me look at myself and work out why it was OK for me to do such things but not her. In this way I was made more aware of the things that I was doing and, for example, I started to be tidier. But basically it just made me more aware in general.
So this is what I think is meant by someone being your mirror. Also I subscribe to a belief system called advaita vedanta which specifies that we are, in actual fact, all one. We are parts of the Divine, just as our toes or noses or arms are parts of our own bodies. Thus, it behoves us to treat all our fellow beings with the utmost respect and to honour each of them as we would wish to be honoured. If we stub our toe, we don't cut our foot off.
All this is just my take on the subject....

Thanks Sunanda, You expliantion of people & mirrors made a lot of sense, thanks...I often do that & try & bite me lip when someones getting under my skin becasue often it's silly niggley little things that I do myself all the time which I soon realise...so yes...I can tottally understand your view on that.
The thing thats not siting with me well at the moment is the like attracks like.....at the moment I'll tell you I don't go along with it at all....but perhaps I'm just making sure I haven't misunderstood the meaning;)...hhhuuummm..it just doesn't seem right to me:eek:

No, but I don't half swear
This made me laugh! But then I had a closer look at it and I thought 'yes but who do we swear at?' We swear at ourselves, right? But don't we also vow to take more care from then on....so it's a lesson too.
The 'like attracts like' thingy is an old chestnut IMO...but it does happen. But not all the times. And equally we can be attracted to - and attract - the exact opposite of ourselves too. Each case is different.

No, I swear at the thing I stubbed my toe on & if it's REALLY bad I hit it too;)
Your talking about attraction with the like attracts like which is understandable & I am married to my opposit:D...it's the like attracts like thingy when we see someone & can't like them!...Being told we see what we don't like becasue what we don't like is within us.....ooo..that sounded double dutch
