RE: Is there no-one brave enough?
St Augustus was as well - in later life anyway - in his youth he was a notorious womaniser apparently.....
I'm off to bed. Only too aware of the 6.30 am alarm call.
Good night God Bless!
RE: Is there no-one brave enough?
I went off before your reply, so I hope you slept well!!!
In a rush now, but just a thought, so many so called 'men of God' were mysogonists - I'll see if I can get all the names later on - 😉 I used to think, what is it about women? Then I realised it was men:D The men who are frightened of women, try to put them down and keep them down. What better way than by convincing other men that the whole female sex are unclean and unable to do much more than give birth, gossip and cook[:'(] Wrap all this up in a cosy religious formula and you have BINGO the 10,000 year oppression of women era:)
See you later.

RE: Is there no-one brave enough?
Oh, lovely!! That's why I (?) the Celtic Christianity!! Within the tribes it was women who were the holders of power - men were their consorts. I believe that traditionally Celtic tribes were matrilineal as well.
No wonder the Romans were horrified by us!!!
Just pottering through the threads at present....Hope you had a good day

RE: Is there no-one brave enough?
Yes very good thanks Glenys, and you too I hope;)
Celtic and pre-Celt always had strong women in equal positions, also the Native American, anyone in any doubt has only to look at Boudicca;) Interesting about the Ordination of women Bishops lately though.
Dr George Carey, has been accused of deliberately suppressing debate about prejudice against women clergy.
Despite the Church's moves towards consecrating the first woman bishop, "it is difficult to imagine how, in such a biased institution, women could function properly in positions of greater authority" a report from the Group for Rescinding the Act of Synod states.
It accuses Church leaders of fear of conflict, misogyny, a devotion to the 'old boy' network andf a 'closeted gay' network, indifference, and even caring about what the Vatican thinks. Women clergy claim that they have been denied promotion in the Church. There are demands to eliminate the Act of Synod to prevent a schism over the ordination of women priests.
One step forward, two steps back:D

RE: Is there no-one brave enough?
If the vote at the Whitby Synod had gone in favour of Hilda how different things might have been!!
It's about time things started to shift in the established churches - the Act should be rescinded - it was introduced by men for the benefit of men. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-men (my sister-in-law always said if you could get a vibrator to mow the lawn you wouldn't need men.......Sorry, bit rude!) but am only too aware of this inequality in the church doctrine. Let's face it, it's a legacy of the Papal state that ruled prior to Henry VIII. My sister is, as said, involved in the C of E but it's the High Church (?) and, as such, is still rooted in the ruling catholicism prior to Harry's divorce....
I believe if there were more prominent women figures in all the churches and religions the whole ethos of those religions would change - hopefully for the better!!
