Hi ya

I am interested to know what different methods people use when consulting the I Ching (Yijing).

So far I have come across the 3 coin method, 8 coin method, yarrow sticks, 16 colour balls (in a 1:3:5:7 ratio), Plum blossom numerology, the Mei Hua calender method, Na Jia method (which I can't get my head around), and the Forest of I Ching by Jiao using short oracle poems.

Which one do you use?

I Ching

Hiya

I've used the 3 coin method since 1978, but have also used the yarrow sticks. I prefer the 3 coins as they are a very familiar method for me.

Have never heard of some of the other ones! Let me know about your experiences.

Best wishes

Hi ya Littleredperson

I like the the 16 colour balls method, as the 1:3:5:7 ratio is the same as yarrow sticks.

So there's:

1 ball coloured blue (changing yin)
3 balls coloured red (changing yang)
5 balls coloured white/clear (stable yang)
7 balls coloured black (stable yin)

There all go in a bag and pulled out randomly 6 times to create a hexagram.

I have used this method on and off for several years and is very convenient.

I use coins or dice and I have a set of cards too, each seems to be effective and easy to use. The easiest maybe be the cards, that method is quick and very familiar to me because of my long term relationship with all cards and there is no need for pen and paper and sticks or dice etc.

Hi ya Crystal

I have often thought of using cards with a dice to decide the changing line. Do you use a dice for that purpose?

Never combined the two, for me most of the reading comes from the energy produced from the hexagram and the seeker together. But I am a terrible shuffler, when to stop, is that long enough etc lol so really I should stick to sticks or coins or dice, but I love cards and am going to start work on making my own set for the I-Ching 🙂

Have just got the three coin set for I Ching - came free with a magazine. Would like to have a go with them and see what happens, any tips on getting started?
