I was just wondering if anyone here, works with the Thoth deck? (tarot)
I've decided it's high time I started to learn mine after years of them sitting in their box.
Yeah, I do
How long have you been reading them Conspiritualist? Hope you don't mind me asking? Have you tried other decks, and if so, did you find the Thoth deck different to other styles of tarot decks?
Thanks.

Hi Whispers,
I’m very sorry for the late reply… was away all weekend.
Anyway to answer your Q’s - I’ve been readin’ em on and off for about 12 years or more maybe 16 (I go through spates of it) I OD on doing it for others then I don’t touch them for years at a time.
I started with the Thoth deck, but many in these circles always seemed to try and warn me off them – you know…the whole Crowley thing and ‘do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law’ etc etc so I started using the classic Rider-Waite set as well as a couple of others but while the RW set were good for me and better than the others they were only OK compared to the Thoth – as I find the thoth ‘talk’ to me much better (probably ‘cause I started with them) ...
So yes for me I find them very different but I’m also kinda scarily and enchantedly fascinated by Harris’ artwork too – in equal measures - captivating and expressive.
:eek::cool::):mad::confused:;)
Basically for me It’s just a tool for intuition (am not proper & nowhere near as talented as probably a lot of readers on here), but they work for me – or at least they seem to as they aint been wrong when I use them… at all!
i learn tarot using my thoth deck and find the symbolism is a lot more true for me

Hi Conspiritualist, thanks for explaining that to me. I got the Thoth deck as it was recommended in a book I was reading. I have done some readings with them, using mostly my intuition, and the readings were good, but I want to get to know the cards symbols etc, and have a deeper meaning of them. I do like the Thoth deck, but there is something there that is making it hard for me to learn them. May be I'm just trying too hard? I've never had a problem with oracle cards. I also like Harris work.

Hi clairabella, how long have you been using the Thoth?
I use and read from Thoth too 🙂 I love it. But I am a bot of a tarot collector and so have many decks that I love and read from. However, the three main categories most fall into I spose has to be the Rider Waite, Tarot De Marseilles and then The Thoth. I think that it is a deck you either love, or hate and daren't touch lol.
Hi Guys, thanks for your replies to my post. Unfortunately I've put my Thoth deck away, as I just couldn't get to grips with it.
So I went and bought myself three other decks, The Gilded Tarot, The Robin Wood tarot, and the Druid Craft Tarot.
I have to say I have fallen in love with the Robin Wood tarot and ever since have been practicing loads and loads. Tarot has become a friend of mine now, where as before it was a chore because I couldn't understand it.
I was given the Thoth deck as a present from my beloved. I couldn't stand the thing and after it languishing in a drawer for several years it went to a car boot sale! And good riddance to it...never "bonded" with it at all.
Now the Robin Wood....Why on earth haven't I got that deck yet? It looks wonderful and I must get around to buying it 🙂
Actually I'm about to order a book from Amazon...

Oh yes, the Robin Wood deck. One of my favourite decks of all time. The imagery is beautiful, and the cards are very easy to bond with. My absolute fave at the moment is the Universal Rider Waite (I have had some truly amazing readings with the deck), but the Robin Wood deck is definitely up there in probably joint second place, along with Kat Black's Golden Tarot.
Ahhhh I could talk about tarot all day!! :p

The Universal Rider Waite is my all time favourite too, I love the gentle colours and prefer it to the original, which like so may other readers I began with 😮
I could Tarot chat forever too, most of my friends think I am very "sad"...Until they want a reading that is
Chat soon!

I can remember when the Thoth Tarot first was published and some friends bought them - there was always one card duplicated in the decks and they were never the same card. Does this still happen?

I can't remember that being the case with mine Binah. I must have been given them about 10 years ago or so though. Maybe there was and I didn't even notice
But I would have put them back into order before they went to the car boot sale (Virgo ascendant) and I can't remember a duplicated card 🙂 But that doesn't mean a lot!
