Hi all

i did a reading to see if i should take the leap and do a music technology course. i did a seven card yes/no spread. i'm not very good at interpreting my cards tho! my question card was the fool reversed. i can't work out if that's good or bad! i also had the hirophant as the external hindrance. as that's the spiritual advisor card i'm not sure what to make of its placing. surely a spiritual advisor would help...?!?! also, the two books i have have conflicting descriptions - one saying i should follow an orthodox path and the other to explore the unothodox. how confusing! also, the internal help card was the two of cups - that would suggest a good partnership? so doing the course would be a good partnership within me?

thanks for your help!

well, just found out the course isn't going ahead so that's solved that little problem! would be grateful if anyone has any info on the meaning of Heirophant (wrong spelling, sorry) for future reference. i think one of the books is more religious biased.

hi joanna,
the hierophant in a reading often represents learning with experts or teachers.
this card also stands for institutions and their values.
the hierophant can be a symbol of the need to conform to rules or certain situations. this card in a reading could mean you are struggling with something that does not suit you that peharps crushes your free spirit, stops you being an individual. joining a group can either be a learning curve or can stifle you , it is up to you whether you join a group to learn or learn alone, the card states to follow your instincts.
the fool is an opposing card to the hierophant in a spread .
if you would like i could pm a more detailed meaning of the hierophant, and if you tell me the spread and cards you picked i could have a look at that for you and see what meaning i could come up with.

RE: Heirophant as Hindrance??

Hi Joanna!:)

Hierophant came through on my email from lotus tarot this morn... thought of you so pasting here!
Hope helpful XXX

The Hierophant

Perhaps you've struggled to meet your parent's expectations
for you, educationally or career-wise, because you simply
wanted to do something else? Perhaps your spouse or lover
likes you to behave in a certain way and you don't like it?

The issues about what is right and wrong for you personally
are of greater importance when The Hierophant appears in
your reading.

For example, you may feel that fidelity and the tradition
of marriage is important to you, and your lover is prepared
to live together but not as man and wife, and this troubles
you.

Perhaps there are many feelings, views, opinions and
principles that you are having trouble expressing and
living by, and suppressing them is causing internal
conflict.

The Hierophant often represents a teacher or wise counsel -
someone you may choose to turn to for help and guidance.

If you are struggling to be true to yourself, it can be
very therapeutic to seek the comfort and understanding of
someone who you feel able to express your REAL thoughts and
feelings to.

Sometimes, we can feel trapped by someone or a situation,
but in reality we have created the situation ourselves by
denying what we really want or who we really are.

They say it can be difficult to see the reality of your
own situation from within it, so when this kindly and
spiritually comforting card appears in your reading, it
could be suggesting you seek out the help and guidance of
someone you trust to give you an alternative perspective.

It could also be highlighting the importance of being true
to yourself and not simply conforming to what others expect
of you.

We don't always have the answers and we don't always know
what's best for us ... in such circumstances, when The
Hierophant appears in your readings, consider seeking
advice, guidance or counseling to help you find those
answers.
