Hi everyone..

Would like to lose 4 stone, I walk one hour a day (physio's orders due to back problem) BUT would be doing that anyway as we have 3 dogs! I'm limited to other stuff at the moment as I've just started physio so I have to wait for her to tell me what I can do excercise wise.

Been veggie for 2 years now and haven't looked back, would like to go vegan but find it so hard and would think it easier to take out a few things at a time and do it grandually.

I would like to know if any vegans out there have lost weight and would you mind jotting down for my what you would typically eat in a day..really need to be no more than 1200 calories a day for my to lose successfully.

We eat everything healthy, wholemeal bread, brown rice/pasta, soya margarine, vegan substitutes (redwood - fab), don't like quorn and of course fruit and veg. the healthy stuff out weighs the bad stuff, hubby it 6 feet tall and barely 11 stone and I''m sooooo jealous..lol!

Anyway, calling all vegans, what's your typical day??

Cheers susan

Hi susand

If you stick to eating food as close to its natural state as possible and steer clear of sugar and sweets, vegan or not, you should find your body will find its preferred weight by itself.

I disapprove of calorie counting myself as I think you can become food obsessed. 80% healthy natural unprocessed food and 20% max for treats and processed food (I'd include your meat substitutes in the 20%) should be just right.

Good luck - and remember, there are lots of thin unhealthy people out there so it's not only about losing weight but about making healthy choices.

Hi Susan

I have just joined rosemary conley to help me lose weight, it allows you 1200 cals a day for the first 2 weeks (they call it quick start or something) so this would fit with what you would like to allow yourself, although I imagine you could probably allow yourself a bit more than this and still lose weight. Sometimes if you deprive yourself too much then you end up giving in to your cravings whereas if you let yourself have occasional treats and dont let yourself get too hungry then it is easier to stick to.

I find that I lose weight more easily if I have actually joined something as it helps motivate me, but if you are quite good at keeping yourself motivated them maybe you might find helpful as it doeant cost too much and will let you keep a track of how many calories you are having, be they vegan, veggie or otherwise.

Just a few suggestions! Hope they help a bit!

Oh, just remembered there is a lady on here called Jackie, think her username is something like x x jackie x x she recently became vegan and she is trying to lose weight, she has started a thread on here to keep people trying to lose wieght motivated too

The assumption veganism is an ideal way to loose weight is a myth, I am standing proof of this. Although I am not overweight (a size 10-12), I do not weigh my ideal, and have certainly not regained my figure that I once had pre-pregnancy. Plus I'm also breastfeeding, so I have an urge for extra calories in my diet. So, due to embarrassment, I shall not tell you my typical day.

Is becoming vegan all about loosing weight or more ethical reasons, cruetly/environmental etc...? I ask this because this will tell me how much you are focused on living a vegan lifestyle. Also, why do you stuggle with it? What are your non-vegan vices?

I always tell people that having a detailed (measure quantities) food diary for a week is a brilliant way, as long as you don't lie. Then you can understand in your daily diet where you are going wrong and how many calories you are actually consuming, this can actually come as quite abig shock.

As you've mentioned, the physio explain what you can do excercise wise. Personally, I think excercise is the biggest part of loosing weight, as it doesn't just take the fat away therefore leaving you with baggy excess skin, it tones and flattens.
