Hi Guy's .
On some level we all know what we are .
Why are there Individuals that consciously know thyself and others do not? Why are there those that remain In denial of the self .
What are the ingredients required to allow what we are to the fore .
What's stopping us from knowing and from being a true expression of what we are .
Hi Nice_1
Self acceptance in an open and non judgemental way does the trick for us.

Hi Paul .
I agree .
Self acceptance Is ever so difficult and yet It seems such a simple and straight forward process .
How would you or anyone else go about accepting what you are when you are not conscious of what you are?
Do you feel that you need to know what you are prior to accepting what you are?
An open question to all .

You have asked a profound question. I, ego, small self r which perceives itself as autonomous and separate from the Whole stops the true self from revealing/expressing itself. Why does it do it? Because if it did not remain in denial of the true self it will lose its autonomous control and eventually its identity altogether. It pretends to be in charge because then this false perception has got you around its little finger. It runs your life.
It is opposite of surrender, because it is frightened to let go because it will result in its demise.
Demise in the sense that it is found to be a mere illusion, the true Self alone Is the tuth.
It is like pitch darkness pretending to be the master/true self. It is frightened to go in light because then it will be clearly seen that darkness happens to be a non-entity. It cannot stay in presence of light. It is just the absence of light
So the ego/sense of I, separation fears the true self as darkness fears light.
The ingredients for true self to reveal itself are surender Which can happen in a number of ways- devotion, self love etc

Hi jnani
I agree wholeheartedly . A wonderful response .
What holds an Individual within Identity Is the fear of losing themselves along with their Identity - Who In their right “ego mind” wants to be a “no-body” ha ha, but that’s what needs to happen .
Having a strong sense of attachment to being someone makes the letting go / surrender most difficult for It goes against and beyond the grain of sense . lol .
I agree that In surrendering to what we are or letting go of what we are not that allows our true self come to the fore .
A process of Self love like you have mentions helps to dissolve the illusions .
If you do not look you will not see.
In order to truly see the process of self-examination in a totally truthful and honest manner is required. this is not easy - so those who want 'easy' will never see, it is not quick so those who want 'quick' will never see.
It has to be accepting, so those who cannot accept who they are, how they are and where they are will never attain the state where they can love themselves.
Those who crave things other that that which they are, will strive for that which they are not, they will lie to themselves and others, construct an edifice of half-truths, and carry pride, avirice and self-deception with them.
To move from this state to honesty is not easy - for instance - when did you last lie? Any lie, a small white lie, a lie to a child, a lie that is in the best interst of someone, or especially yourself. While these continue you will be denying that you are who you are, you confirm that you are not good enough, and the spiral away from 'knowing and being an expression of who we are' continues.

Hi Chris . Thanks for your contribution .
I agree that a process of self enquiry / self examination Is required and It’s never an easy journey what Is revealed to the Individual Is everything that Is blocking what you are from what you are . So many things can be buried deep within mind that the Individual Isn’t even conscious / aware of . You mention acceptance and I agree .
I understand when you mention certain behaviour's that can steer you a way from your true nature and In those actions taken one Is denying the true self to be In expression . Sometimes what appears to be going against the grain or going against our true nature Is meaningful In that eventually It will bring about the realization that true happiness or to what Is peace and Joy can never be experienced whilst exercising one’s behaviour that will contain an expression that Is not of love on some level . Just as looking outside of one’s self will eventually bring an Individuals attention Inwards .
Doesn't society reward a lot of behaviours and punish others though, quite often completely harmless ones, like a different hairstyle or tattoos - a lot of jobs won't let you in the front door with a tattoo. That could be a reason why people find it hard to accept themselves, negative external reinforcement.
