Hey everyone,
I'm new here so apologies if this is in the wrong place or has been asked before. A friend told me about Vaginismus and i'm really worried i might have it. I'm only 16, and i've been trying to use tampons for about 3 years and it just hurts too much and won't go in. It's not just tampons, nothing else will go in either *blushes* sorry if that's a bit too much info, i'd just really like some help on this. I also suffer from CFS, so it's not possible for me to go to the doctors or gynae. I'm not scared of the idea of sex at all, but i'm really scared at the thought of not being able to or being unable to use tampons etc. So could this be Vaginismus?
Any advice would be appreciated.

RE: Vaginismus
Hi Keylime, I guess it is possible that it is Vaginismus but the only way you'll know for sure is if you get it checked out.I would suggest that you make an appointment to see the nurse at your local surgery.I realise you have reasons for not already doing so but I'm afraid it probably the only way you'll get a proper diagnosis. Plus that way you'll be able to get some help with dealing with it. Hope you find your answer, good luck 😀

RE: Vaginismus
hi keylime [sm=wave.gif],
when i was your age ( many moons ago![sm=rollaugh.gif]) i too had this problem which looking back was purely psychological due to my mother instilling the fear that as a virgin, i should not use tampons [&:]. so of course, i listened to her *words of wisdom*.
when i left home at 17 and was in a sexual relationship, i was still using sanitary towels because of the powerful effect my mothers words had on me. back then, i associated tampons as something fearful and when i finally made the switch from towels to tampons, by heck did i have a tough time trying to insert them because of the psychological impact those words had.
at that time, i wasn't using them correctly as i too scared to push the applicator in and as a result, would adopt a funny walk!! like you, even though the tampon would go in, because i was tensing up, it was painful. eventually i got the hang of it and used a blob of KY jelly ( a lubricant) as i found it made insertion easier.
fast forward to the present and i have been using non applicator tampons as i find them easier and without being too graphic, your finger is the best guide as you can feel for yourself where to aim for to get the correct position:D.
if you do try these, one word of advice- unravel the string before insertion as i found out by personal experience and spent the best part of 20 minutes in a right flap until i located the string!![sm=rollaugh.gif]
also, it may be that you are naturally "small" down there as i have a friend who is and although you have mentioned you can't see a doctor/gynae , i personally feel that it is a step in the right direction as they can tell you if your problem is medical , psychological or a mixture of both.:)i can only offer you my own experience which i hope you have found a little bit helpful.
warm wishes- calla lily x
RE: Vaginismus
Thank you very much to both of you, i feel a little less worried now xx
RE: Vaginismus
its almost like a vicious circle isnt it.
How about giving it a break from trying for a couple of months, the more you worry about something the more aprehensive you will become, the more your muscles will lock making it worse.
A couple of things for you to try honey
Only try inserting during a good flow (start and end of periods its always drier and creates more friction) Use the smallest size with tampax its the red coloured box!
Another thing which sounds a little of the wall but should help with you having control in relaxing the muscles. Do pelvic floor exercises then practice pulling in and holding the muscles for 5 seconds then let go as much as you can. The trick with this is before you try inserting contract your muscles then just before you insert relax them and breathe out. This will help to ensure you are not overly tightening due to nerves, stress etc etc.

Thanks for the advice, i'll definately give it a go xx
RE: Vaginismus
I know this is a really old thread, but in case anyone is having a similar problem, I wanted to add that it may not be vaginismus but a tough hymen. You can have a hymenectomy to rectify this. After several years of thinking you have a psychological problem it can be a relief to find the root cause was physical.
Florence
vaginismus i am cured at last
hi florence and everyone else,
i was looking for threads on hrt but came across this one which is close to my heart as i suffered this vaginismus for nearly 9 yes nine years until i found a fabulous product called a vagi-wave and then just within a month my problem went away. i was amazed, so if you ladies are still looking for a solution then you need to try and find the vagi-wave on the intanet somewhere, i cant remember the link but it must still be out there as i saw a huge editorial on it last year. sorry i cant be much more help, but us women must stick to gether and share all the info we have, so here is my bit of info that will make a big difference to making sure vaginismus is a thing of the past.
