A friend of mine suffers terribly with thrush. She also gets very bloated when this happens and needs to go to the toilet constantly. She takes cranberry tablets which does help but does not get rid of the problem. Any ideas ...
RE: Thrush
Hi Victoria
I have had thrush really badly and the advice I was given on here was to completely cut out sugar, yeast, alcohol and fizzy drinks from my diet.It is the only thing that has worked for me.I have also taken the doctors tablet but i think this is only of use if the diet is changed.I have completely cut out all sugar including fruit sugar...I have done this only for about 2/3 weeks but it is the only thing i have found to be successful...the couple of times i have eaten sugar it has come back a bit.Apparently the best thing is to stick to this diet for at least 3 months.A friend of mine who had it really badly had to do it for a year.Whilst its advised to cut out all alcohol I have found that vodka and soda doesnt seem to affect it too badly if its the odd drink.
Some people also advise cutting out wheat and gluten,i had done this before so i dont personally know how important this is.
There are also various natural remedies you can buy for it but i was told to wait til about 3 weeks after the diet change to take them.
I have a list somewhere of a flower remedy course if you would like to post it here for your friend.
Good luck to her!
Love
Anna
RE: Thrush
Hi Victoria,
If your friend has full blown Candida, then she probably also has some food sensitivities ( the Candid mycellium grows through the gut and lets undigested food into the bloodstream so your body treats it as 'foreign' and sets up a sensitivity). She will need to avoid, all sugar, yeast, fungi, fermented things - soy sauce, vinegar- for at least three months. If she has tummy probs (bloating would be a strong sign) then cutting out wheat, gluten and dairy would make sense, as these are the usual culprits. Herbal tablets to kill off the Candida are available, things made of Pau D'arco, Caprylic acid, Grapefruit seed extract (can't remember proper name). You can get these from some health food shops, or from Biocare. Best bet is to see a nutritionist ( I saw a lady who is Dip. ION qualified) who will prescribe the right mix.
For permanent healing, the diet and the supplements have to be stuck at, but it's worth it in the end.
RE: Thrush
Hi Victoria,
I too suffer terribly with thrush. It is a real nuisance! Bread and alcohol are the worst offenders. Natural yoghurt is a godsend, and it is very cooling.
Also, I would advise your friend to cut down on stress and worrying situations. Stress makes my condition flare up in no time at all!
Good luck with getting rid of this nasty condition - yuck!
Love,
Patsy.

RE: Thrush
I had really bad Thrush after a long course of antibiotics. I had it every where it was horrible. Nothing my GP could give me would help. I felt really horrible with it. I went to the library and got books on it and cut out grapes, wine, mushrooms, bread, onions all sorts and nothing helped. As a last resort I went to a homeopath and with a bit of persaverence on both parts she eventually got it sorted for me. And how did she treat? Not for Thrush, but for the original illness that I'd had that was lurking about in my body and setting off the Thrush. After that it used to come back about once a month and I'd ring her up and she'd send me a remedy through the post. She really saved my life, I think I'd have gone mad without her. So go and see a homeopath. I'd definitely recommend it.

washing in a solution of tea tree is very effective and even making a lotion of it.
i had it suggested that a drop of tea tree on a tampon was good and, yes, i can confirm, it was. mind you, thrush is not something i suffer from and this seemed to have been a one off case but i got fed up with it pretty quick and found the tea tree to be very effective.

Hello all thrushsufferers.
The advice I got from my homepath is to do a vaginal rinse (e.g. with the jug and the lead) consisting of 1liter of water and a tablespoonful of white vinegar, 4 times a day for 4 days, then once a day for 3 days, then once a week. Then it should go completely, forever...(??) I'm just trying it out now myself. Can't get the water to stay in though, as it goes in it comes out... Let's see what happens.

Systemic versus local medication of vulvo-vaginal infections
13 September 2002I read with keen interest the Clinical review on Vulvo-vagnal candidiasis by Jeanne Marrazo, published in the BMJ (September 14, Vol 325, 2002 p586-7).
The clinical evidences reviewed are interesting and in-depth. However, I would like to mainly comment on the local versus systemic treatment of vaginal infections. My specific disagreement is on the overall benefits of oral antifungals for this infections. We know that systemic adminstration of antifungals has several side-effects as mentioned in the NNH11 study. More over the systemic treatment can not be administered for a very long period due to these side effects while local treatment can be continued for a long period with no significant side effects. As highlighted in the study NNT3 and NNT4 the effectiveness of one anti-microbial may differ from another irrespective of the route of administration, the ideal way to compare the choice of route to administer the drug is by tolerance and minimal side effects. We reported a case of vulvo-vaginal enterobiasis long back in 1989 who did not respond to any of the systemic anthelminthic treatment. Not only that we also tried larger doses and longer duration which caused more intolerability and no beneficial effects. More over the systemic treatment is also significantly costly. Only the local treatment was found effective.(1) I think that similar to our anthelminthic case report, fungal infections should preferably be treated by local anti-fungals rather than systemic administration of higher doses for prolonged periods.
I also do not agree with the RCTs recommendations that treatment of sexual partner does not have any beneficial effect. It is convention as well as well reported that conjugal candidiasis is very common and it may not be important for treating the current infection but it is strongly recommended for preventing recurrent vaginal candidiasis.(2-4)

Curious to find this Thread here, as men do suffer with Thrush, also. Only fear or rath prevents me from moving it. 😀
Personally a suggest that you check the Allergies Forum & some of my other ramblings on HP about this problem - a Search aught to find them. 😉
