Hiya
I wondered if anyone had any advice... I get insomnia for a week before my period. I feel very tired and cranky due to lack of sleep. I think it may be some hormonal inbalance. I also get lovely spots and I'm well passed teenage years!!!! Is there anything I can do to eliviate the symptoms?
Many thanks, Vanessa x
Hi Vanessa, 🙂
There's a couple of things you could look at to relieve your insomnia. Magnesium helps to relax the body, you could try taking this before bedtime. I'd try a 100 mg at first and then slowly add more....loose stools are the key to too much.
If you drink coffee, you could try alleviating it during the week before your period, if you're an addict like me, try stopping to drink it after noon time. Adding more water to your diet may help too.
Valerian root has a calming effect and may help you to relax. 5THP helps increase serotonin which always helps increase melatonin which helps you sleep. And you could try taking melotonin too....your health store could advise you on this. Breathing meditations are calming too and regular exercise.
Taking a B complex vitamin may help and vitamin C too. Broccoli, carrots, squash, sweet potato and fruits like cantaloupe and strawberries are rich in minerals, which we tend to lose when under stress. Bananas are too, though they do tend to cause us to bloat more.
Evening primose oil has helped me to balance my hormones and has also helped the 'spots' we seem to get as estrogen levels decrease and progresterone levels increase.
Dandelion tea and milk thistle may help cleanse the liver which may also relieve your blemishes. 🙂
Thank you so much Ravenstar for such a comprehensive reply. Lots for me to think about and give a try. Magnsium is something I suspect I am deficient in, so that may be my first line of enquiry, along with evening Primrose. Valarium leaves me feeling very foggy the next morning (some would say, no change there then!), but always a good last resort. Very practical, thank you. xx
Your welcome 🙂
