Mood swings (menopausal?)

My wife, who is on the verge of the menopause (she keeps thinking every period is the last - but then it isn't!) has been complaining recently of feeling depressed. Her fear is that this is more than "feeling down", because in the past she has suffered from clinical depression which took a long time to recover from.
I have a feeling that because of the up and down nature of the current "depression", it might be hormone-related. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of supplements that might work to stabilise these mood swings?

Hi Nick
I'd recommend Starflower Oil, which is apparently 5 times stronger than Evening Primrose oil. Also, if she's not taking any medication, then St John's Wort tablets should help.

HI Nick- your wife's feelings of depression may be hormonally related but I think that this is her particular susceptibility- or 'weak spot'- whereas for someone else, it might be bloating or migraines, for example..... the menopause is just triggering it.
She could address this susceptibility using homeopathy- she would probably need a few sessions. Supplements such as star flower oil will help to some extent I expect, but I think homeopathic medicines have the potential to be much more deep acting. She has my best wishes. HTH Hom
