Hi everyone!
hopethis is a right place to post this question. It's about my mum. she's been having terrible migraines related to her periodsever since she was 18 (she's 48). she usually can't do anything about the pain. she's done all the tests, tried all there is in the market. Today she heard about thisnew medicine RIZATRIPTAN. of course we're all sceptical as nothing ever helped, but i would first like to hearabout someone's experience, ifanyone hadused it.
thanks a lot for your help
RE: migraine and period
Hi...I have no idea about RIZATRIPTAN...if you haven't alreadydone so look it up...a search on the netto see what you find...especially about side effects.
Ok..this may be a stupid question...but has your mother tried natural or holistic approaches first?. Often when people are at their wits endwith migrane they eventually have to sleep it off...but may or may notwake with it again raging. I would say that it also can be a reaction to stress.I've read something that mentioned heat rising to the head in particular with menstral cycles. Some women find that the herb Mugwort helps...its also for other things...among them to help suppression of mentruation; slow, delayed...(takena fewsday before onset not during...this goes for if you are taking it for headaches as well). I've tried Mugwort and it worked well for a while.
She probably has....but I'll ask anyways...has she tried to just relax, find a soothing place, low light or dark and just breath easy until the breath can become full and smooth...this is a way to observe the mirgrane/your bodies reactions...sometimes some nice musichelps. Some people find that yoga helps in general or in the moment... [link= http://www.yogajournal.com ]www.yogajournal.com[/link] might have some poses to do if she is able or familar.
Chinese herbs some best taken under doctor supervision unless you know what you are doing...mayhelp...though it works in a timely fashion so patience is required. Sometimes its that you have to watch what you eat around the times that the migrane starts up....something you regularly eat could make it worse at those times. Generally (barring any allergies) getting enough good fresh fruit, veggies, salad, and water can help...by water I meant for an adult at least 2 liters a day give and take.
Sometimes just smelling some peppermint oil can be clearing...or rubbing it on the temples..same goes for Vicks Vapor Rub if you have that where you live or you can just use a general menthol rub..there should be lots of natural oriented products like that if you can get it where you live. She probaby has...but I'll ask anyways...does she massage her neck, scalp, and shoulders (with some oil....any healing oil, baby oil type)...move her neck about slowing with the massage....breathing..really getting into the self massage. She can try it without the oil - dry handed - for a morerustic grip/feelor with cool hands (from an ice pack).
Theres also reflexology/foot massage....with the same idea. Either way she has an option of also starting off withmassaging her hands like to do when you put lotion on....only in this case with a bit more emphasis..try to relax...and remember to breath.
Sometimes its helps to just gentle massage over the liver area for a little bit...,itsgland I believe,it hasmuch importance with the blood. Remember in all cases if sitting up for massage...keep upright posture. And in many case she may also just need to get some fresh air if she is inside...if she can't step out then perhaps an open window, sitting by the window enough where your nostrils and face and breath it in...not a cure all but itcan be healing and clearing also for migranes.
She can also investigate what earth crystals or rocks would be helpful. Maybe she can hold it or place under pillow...its something you have to try and see how thing work for you. There is a forum here that deals with natual healing, crystals...give it a visit...and theres also the head/neck forum...but do read the previous questions/answers first..you may find what you want to know and more beforeyou inquire.
Anyways...I hope she finds what works for her thats healthy and healing as well.
