My sister in law is in the menopause, but only medically diagnosed for about 6 months, she is getting so old looking, I mean she physically looks older by the week, how is this possible, its kinda scary to watch and she is not impressed, its not just the weight but her face looks drawn and older:eek:
menopause
I am an ayurvedic consultant and specialise on the menopause.
In ayurvedic medicine the menopause is caused by an increase in vata energy. These changing energies are normal as we are moving from the kapha/child phase into the pitta/adult phase and finally into the mature vata phase.
So menopause is a time of transition to vata. Unfortunately vata also governs the energy of ageing. And if your sister already has a high vata energy to begin with, this can perpetuate...
There are things that she can do to control the vata and this has to do with lifestyle and ayurvedic herbal preparations.
I hope this helps explain it somewhat!
Thanks
Sonja
Has she ever tried hormone thereapy. She can talk to her gynologist about this therapy.
Hormone Replacement Therapy
The HRT is unfortunately associated with heart disease and cancer. A natural alternative is the better option but the GP's are not trained in that. This is where the complementary healthcare profession comes in. Ayurveda for example understands health, health maintenance and treats the individual with a goal to restoring health (not eradicating the disease). In any case the Menopause is not a disease but something which 50% of the population will experience. It would not be right to medicalise it and cause side effects.

This 'looking older by the week' is not normal in the menopause - or at any time of life actually. (Unless you're exaggerating a tad for effect! :p) But it seems to me there is another issue here, if it's true. How has her menopause been 'diagnosed'? Change in hormone levels?
Its oesterogens fault!
Unfortunately lack of oestrogen means lack of collagen, which keeps skin looking firm and supple. During the first 5 years after menopause women lose up to 30% of their collagen, which means the skin will sag, fine lines and wrinkles become deeper and permanently etched onto the face. HRT will help stimulte collagen and skin will become firmer, but doctors very rarely prescribe it for vanity reasons. If you have good genes then you are lucky and may not be affected too much, Diet, exercise and a good moisturiser will ehlp
My mother was in menopause and a cream containing Wild Yam plant helped her a lot to minimize her menopause problems. Is there someone who could write here more about the Wild Yam?
