Hello,
I have joined just so that I can let you know this...
BioCare sells a wonderful product (vegetable oil based) that helps encourage the correct vaginal flora, which will, in turn, stop the symptoms of thrush.
However, TREX (solid white VEGETABLE fat used in cooking...not LARD ) has virtually the same ingredients in it. And it really works when used topically (can also be used right inside the vagina - use a tampon smeared with it - but don't forget to change regularly, please)
A patient came to see me today and was so grateful for the recommendation that she prompted me to tell more people about it.
I have been recommending it for over 10 years, and it has never failed to impress me with its effectiveness.
It must be Trex only and should be kept in the fridge (neatly labelled "for personal use only" - so as to avoid potentally embarrassing and revolting mix-ups when making pies!).
I hope that info is of help to someone.
Thanks.
- I understand that Trex can still be bought from larger Tesco stores and the Co-op:)
Here's a photo of the packaging:
Hi DrBird and a warm welcome to Healthypages
Thanks for posting this. It sounds a very interesting alternative remedy. I was just wondering if you had some further information you could post about this? For instance, I was intrigued as to how you came across this and how long it took for the remedy to work?
Many thanks

Yes - please tell us more. My daughters are plagued with thrush, as I was as a teenager and young adult. They currently use natural yoghurt and resort to Caneston Duo when it all gets too much. I need some hard facts before I can wave a packet of Trex at them - I'm already 'The Mom from Outer Space' with my wacky ideas about natural health!!!
Hello,
sorry for the delay - the practice has been very busy and I thought that HealthyPages would send me an email once there was a response to my post - maybe I am missing something there? Sorry - no time to sort that out.
Now - when did I first hear about Trex? Confidentiality means that I cannot divulge a patient's name but this lady had had the info passed to her from her mother. I was so curious that I looked into it...and found no evidence, of course! However, obviously the next time I had a woman come to see me with thrush that hurt so badly and caused so much pain, embarrassment and inconvenience (let alone ill health!) and had NOT responded to the usual medical advice/prescriptions, I tentatively suggested Trex. Yes - it was a comedic moment! But this woman was desperate for ANY help and as I was certain that TREX would do 'no harm', she was in favour of trying it. So, tears of joy ensued once she gained relief.
No, I am not about to conduct double-blind placebo trials on this stuff, but it is something that can gradually be spread (sorry for the pun) across the country via forums such as this.
Please try it and post back how you get on. I am very in favour of also turning the body more alkaline - through diet - to stop the candida from thriving.
Oh, sorry Jabba the Hut - I didn't see your response there.
I suggest getting hold of a sterile jar and disguising it (make your own label?!), adding the Trex and offering it to your daughters. I totally understand why they would think you are off the planet for suggesting they use it, but it wil help.
Therefore, perhaps a little bit of deviousness on the first occasion could be forgiven? Rather unethical if I were to do that for patients (so I do not!) but I feel it would be justifiable for loved ones...but then, you must keep your own counsel on this matter Jabba.
Hiya DrBird
Good to see you here with us again. At first it did sound quite a bizarre treatment but now, with your explanation, I do understand. If ever I was in such pain, I'm sure it would be worth trying, so many thanks for posting this for us all to see.
I look forward to seeing more of your postings.
Best wishes

thrush treatment
I am intrigued by the Trex recommendation. I would be interested to know if Trex is hydrogenated & what vegetable oil it is made from? please.
Addressing the cause of the thrush will greatly help too, a good quality liquid probiotic taken for a month will encourage the growth of friendly bacteria in the gut. It is best avoiding the well known probiotics widely available as they are full of sugar which only feeds the candida albicans yeast.
Avoiding all sugar for a while and yeasty foods is highly effective and shop bought bread...it is so yeasty. I have heaps of other dietary recommendations if you require further information?
Treat the cause & the symptons!
Sorry JoannaR,
not being plagued by thrush myself, I don't keep Trex in the fridge - so cannot help with your query. But do post back with your observations.
Hi! Like Joanna, I can highly recommend dietry changes. Also I would recommend anyone who suffers from persistant thrush go to their local GU/STD clinic. They test on the spot and confirm your diagnosis and give treatment (on the NHS!). And don't forget the good old fashioned air to the vital places. I am so much better when I don't wear knickers! (Not so hot for those who wear trousers though - kinda defeats the object!). A strict exclusion diet not only cleared my thrush completely but helped with an incredible number of niggly health issues that I had not expected it to and made a new woman of me - until my choc addiction kicked back in anyway! Good luck to fellow sufferers!
I found natural treatment to be the best
I used all the usual traditional creams for my vaginal thrush like canesten etc. They stopped working and only made matters worse. I eventually resorted to natural products out of desperation and now use mama natures proskin candida. It only took 1 week for my thrush to go away and as a precautionary measure I use it in the morning. Myn thrush hasn't returned and that's now been months. Great product wish my doctor had known about it for alll ythese years.
