Hi guys,

Almost 2 yrs ago I found a small pea sized lump in my right breast, off to the breast clinic and scan/mammogram later its a cyst, phew! (I do have family history of breast cancer).

So the last few mths I am experiencing tenderness in my right breast, real tender to touch, feels sore when Im on the treadmill and I sometimes cup my breast and hold it still while I jog. Few wks ago I developed what I thought was gonna develop into a pimple, a real sqeezy spot on the right breast, the skin was discoloured but no spot appeared just a definate small disoloured area which lasted about 10 days??? odd! Went to the gp approx 6-8wks ago about the pain, she examined me but dismissed it as a regular thing for women to experience.

Now I have got fairly large breasts, and I admit they are a wobbly, nobbly, nightmare to examine. So now Im taking anti inflammatories and pain killers and am going to see a diff gp on monday hopefully.

Just wondered if anyone has experienced this and what how they manage it?

thanks Amanda 🙂

Well mastitis may follow from poor drainage of fluid from the breast, among other things. Bras should be not too tight, and underwires can be problematic in this regard, because they constrict some of the lymph channels. Make sure then that bras are properly fitted, and if you must use underwires, take every opportunity during the day to loosen them off. Don't wear them at night.

Also, antiperspirant affects removal of toxins, and is itself toxic - the rule is generally if you would not eat it, don't put it on your skin. Blocking up the pores can only interfere with their important function. Aluminium has in turn been found in breast lumps, and it is thought this may originate in antiperspirants.

And of course, jogging does place these tissues under quite a strain. Perhaps go swimming or spinning until you have resolved this?

Lastly, vitamin D deficiency is strongly implicated in actual breast cancer (and other cancers). Worth a look into that for any kind of mysterious inflammatory situation, as it is so common, especially in winter.

wow kdvp,

So much info things I wld never have thought of. I do wear underwire bras due to the better support I feel they give me, I dont wear bra overnight and I do pop into shops for fitting. Out of interest what deodorants do you recommend based on your theory? Im interested in that, I do wear spray anti persperants.

Thank you 🙂

Well I avoid deodorant most of the time, and I never - ever - use antiperspirant.

On occasions when eg I am dealing with clients and a deodorant is considered polite I use the stick kind - either the Desert Essence ones or the Tom's of Maine - both work really well despite no aluminium.

The ball kind don't last very long, and the spray kind are inhaled. Take note all you gym fans, using spray-ons in public changing rooms is pretty antisocial!

The crystal kind say 'no alum', but in fact seem to contain a lot of aluminium,in other forms, so I avoid. If anyone from Pitrok cares to comment and correct me on this, please do.

Certainly while contending with an inflammed breast I would urge to avoid all such products and ask colleagues etc to be sympathetic in the event of any odour. Remember that any unpleasant odour is likely toxins coming out, which is an important function.

Hi mrsleachy - you could also try manual lymphatic drainage (with Mods permission - for a list of therapists). It is a very specific technique, and really useful for painful breasts - very gentle despite the name!
