About 3 years ago my smear test showed up abnormal. Yes i panicked, but went through the usual tests and found out i had pre-cancer cells (CIN 3). I had 2 options, the first to have a them removed by laser or loop, and the other was hysterectomy. I opted for the first one, but it didnt work. So after my check i told the specialist i wanted the hysterectomy, as it was the only way to get the cells out of my body! After that, i was fine for a couple of years, until i began to itch intensly down below. At first i thought it was thrush (automatic reaction), but after buying all kinds of treatments for thrush i realised it wasnt that. So i braved going to the doctors. She referred me to the hospital, where i had more tests, one being colposcopy. This showed i had warts. I sat with the doctor so he could explain about these warts, and was shocked to find out that they were sexually transmitted. My first thoughts were, how did i get them (and unless you know my full lifes story, you wont understand fully what im about to say), and how could i get rid of them.
When all this was explained to me, the next thing i did was to blame my husband as he had a rash for years (apparantly long before me, but only had it seen to once) and it just made sense.
When i returned to the hospital for the results from the colposcopy, i was horrified. Not only did i have these warts, they had the same pre-cancer cells (CIN3) within them. You can imagine what i was like when i was told that!!
I was told that i would have to attend the colposcopy clinic every six months thereafter.
Anyway, i've been into hospital twice now for treatment (laser), and after each one they seem to come back again, and this seems like almost a month between each. After the last treatment, i payed close attention to the area to see if they came back - and they did! But i had an appointment to be seen in May.
I've looked at several different sites on the net, and most say that once they re-occur you most definately have them for life. My Question is, can i really have these laser treatments at the rate im going? There wont be much left (if you know what i mean) to laser. And is there anyone else that has the same problem and knows what im going through? Or is there anyone out there that knows of any other alternative treatment that they are not telling me?
I'm finding it hard coping with this medical problem of mine, and my husband doesnt really understand. If he did, he would go get his rash seen to, but he won't. Dont get me wrong, he may be feeling awkward about it, but surely its something that should be done! He knows im upset about it, especially knowing the pre-cancer cells are back, but all the time he doesnt go get checked out, i'm starting to dislike him for it.
(Those out there i've already spoken to about this, thanks for your support and advice, and look! i braved posting it!!) [sm=grouphug.gif]

RE: A Sensitive Subject for me!
Isn't a rash one sign of syphilis?
RE: A Sensitive Subject for me!
I've just read up on that - and its made me feel worse now [sm=mecry.gif]
RE: A Sensitive Subject for me!
KiraBira...I have had the same Virus and would like to tell you that it is not as bad as you think (although it is very upsetting cosmetically)..it is apparently as common a virus as having a cold..however it needs to be got rid of my dear...I did what you did asked for laser treatment etc..but laser only gets rid of the warts surface and not the root..so it still is there underneath..What I found was that Aldara cream worked for me...it may work for you aswell? its got to be worth discussing with your health care worker/doctor..From my experience Aldara works with the virus and gets rid of the problem..I had to persevere for at least a month using it..the down side is that it irritates the normal skin a bit..but its worth it.

RE: A Sensitive Subject for me!
Hi KiraBira
I dont know if this will help but I have had exactly the same experience as you & yes while the warts can be passed on sexually we all have the papiloma virus in our bodies & this can be activated due to stress & a low immune system also smoking encourages warts, so its not neccesarily been passed to you via a partner. I've had the loop biopsies, laser treatment & also a hysterectomy & still I've just had an abnormal smear & am going back to colposcopy yet again, fortunately for me I dont have external warts mine are all internal so at least I dont have to worry about the cosmetic thing to worry about. On the plus side I was taken in for yet another session of laser treatment & they couldnt find anything to laser they seem to come & go.
Try not to worry to much it seems that this is a common problem & something we just have to learn to live with.
Also get hubby checked out to if he has the virus he could be passing it back to you its no good just you getting treatment.
If you want to discuss this any further just PM me I'm more than happy to talk about it with you.
RE: A Sensitive Subject for me!
Hi everyone

Carol - so sorry i missed your reply - thankyou - i think at the time i was very confused, shocked with a lot more emotions on top of that too. [sm=hug.gif]
RE: A Sensitive Subject for me!
Hi Kira, Has your husband been for a check up? I hope so, when dealing with diseases that can be transmitted it is sensible for both partners to get checked out.
I hope he has done.

I would echo Rosi's wise advice - the human papilloma viruse is sexually transmitted, and you may be that you are being continuously reinfected if your husband has genital warts. please tell him that HPV is implicated in causing penile problems as well, and treatment will prevent the need for drastic measures if neglected.

RE: A Sensitive Subject for me!
As a mere male, may I suggest that your husband, when he has sexual contact with you covers up his penis, it's a terribly complex process and very expensive, it's called a condom.
I know in this hedonistic society it's almost taboo to suggest anything that could deprive a man's orgasmic sensations, but one aspect of a man's love is supposed to be placing his partner's health above his own satisfaction.
If he feels that he cannot make this 'sacrifice', then let him 'eat cake' or in this case masturbate.

RE: A Sensitive Subject for me!
Rosie1 & Doq - hi - No he hasnt had a test done - he visited the doctors and explained the situation and that is it as far as i know. I have asked a couple of times and even the doctors dealing with me suggest he go and get the test done.
Leonardo - hi - since i found out about the warts there has been no sexual contact between us - i wont allow it as i still blame my husband i guess. As the treatments go on and as the warts return, i feel less of a woman (if you know what i mean) - so sex is out of the question. Since the first signs of the warts, and with the amount of treatments i have had, they just seem to return (usually within 2 weeks of the treatment).
I am crossing all i have and praying that this time is the last or at least there is improvement - i wont know until mid may when i return to see the doc.

Good luck Michelle, you deserve better,

RE: A Sensitive Subject for me!
Thanks Leo
Ok something else has cropped up since i last spoke - im now getting some spotting here and there - im in panicking mode now - is this supposed to happen? I know what i have to do (go docs) and i will, i just hope its not what i think it is and that its just the case it hasnt healed properly.
Carol if you are around i would like to know if this is what you had after any of your treatments
RE: A Sensitive Subject for me!
Michelle - spotting can easily occur from the vaginal vault after hysterectomy from many simple problems - even thrush; there may be oestrogen deficiency causing weakening of the lining and local bleeding - which responds very well to oestrogen cream; the sites of laser treatment will often bleed a little in the healing process - so panic not, my dear. pesky little virus is difficult to get rid of - just think of how difficult ordinary skin warts can be [:'(]
PS - Giles has done you proud with the new name - it is brilliant [sm=jump1.gif]

RE: A Sensitive Subject for me!
Hi Leo,
I am going to say something very personal now. In my experience, men's contraceptives do not reduce the sensation of sex.
Love,
Patsy.
