It's a long time since I was ever in a dialysis ward (nearly twenty years) so my info may be out of date. Maybe someone else will have more knowledge.

I wouldn't think you would have to change anything. My memory of the machines were that you were connected and the machine did all the work. You wouldn't normally get machine dialysis at home.

There also is peritoneal dialysis which can be done at home. If you check this link it will tell you more.
