Hiya

Been trawling the web for info on this, so have developed a reasonable overview of it.. but wondered if anyone had any experience of it, or could suggest any methods to control / eradicate the problem and get the body making intrinsic factor. I've one person to get hold of *points at Dez* for some treatment, but wanted to ask really if anyone has undertaken the B12 shots and if they were a success.

Thanks

J

Hi Gussie,

My mum has this condition and so did her father. She wasn't diagnosed until she was in her late 60's early 70's and only then because she mentioned at one GP appt that her father had this!

She has the B12 injections and says they really help her symptoms.
I hope that helps?

Love and light

Thanks for replying. It does seem like it's mainly the elderly who get this, or people just get diagnosed very late on, so I don't know how it affects people as they get older or what the benefits / risks in the injections might be. I have read that oral B12 supplements can work, but that the dose required may need to be very high.

As yet no diagnosis, but it is being tested for atm so should know more in a week or so. Just want to prepare myself, just in case. With my history, based on my reading so far, it seems to make sense of a long period of symptoms, illness and malaise, so I would be surprised at this stage if it isn't this.

Did your relatives perk up quite quickly when they started injections do you know, do you know what their symptoms were? Were there any warning signs over the years, which might have been missed but only came to light when the B12 levels were tested?

Hi,
You could also consider low levels of HCl as an underlying cause

sAMMY - Unfortunately HCI isn't the cause. I have had tests on the absorption side of things and until a week ago had been supplementing with Betaine HCI.

I have got PA i nearly died with it as i couldnt walk and kept loosing the power of speech i was really ill and my doctor decided i had psoriatic arthritis !!! and was giving me tablets for arthritis its only when i got really cross and demanded blood tests that i got diagnosed and even then he was only testing my blood for rheumatic diseases and by a stroke of luck someone who was looking at the blood samples noticed my blood cells were huge..and my doctor then got in touch and they found my blood was down to 33 so they started the injections and it took about 18 months to get well but i have nerve damage in my nervous system and it affects my foot and back if i am stressed /tired or hot..so i try to cope as well as i can..i now also take methycobalamin lozenges as well as getting my b12 injection and they help..in fact i dont know what i would do without them.I believe i had it for over 26 years before i was diagnosed and it was sometimes worse than others as over the years i remember back to having symptoms..
I also take nettle tea as that has traces of b12 in it and i am sure that kept me going..

B12 injections

Slightly off the thread I know, but on the general subject, if your doctor poo poos the idea of trying B12 shots as a pick me up, does anyone know where you could get them done?

I am in the east London /essex area btw.

Hi I have PA, had it some 15 years now. Before diagnosis, i could hardly walk, was breathless, very tired, no appetite, aching joints, sore tongue. I have B12 injections every 12 weeks, my doc wont do every month which seems to be more the norm. I tend to run out of energy 2-3 week before the end of the 12 weeks. But within a week of having the injection, I feel renewed energy. It took them 5 years to diagnose, so by that time i was out on my feet, but am 90% better now.

I read a short article about healing wounds is affected by PA.I had an operation 9 weeks ago on my foot, and the wound has still not healed. The Doctor at the hospital is using Manuka Honey Tulle dressings to try and speed this up. Also, when i had an x-ray, the bones are still not healed. I wondered if maybe the injections should have been increased to monthly during the recuperation/healing period.

Does anyone have any info or know where i can find any that confirms that B12/PA affects the healing process. I would like this info to take with me on my next hospital appointment on 8 October.

Thank you.

Hi Judeas I was looking over the response to your problems with PA. The B12 responses are correct. However, that is only the tip of the Iceberg. Anemia does cause a B12 depletion in the body. This is mainly because the Stomachs Parietal Cells are not operation properly, because of the Anemia. Primary or Pernicious Anemia, stops the Parietal Cells from producing Hydrochloric Acid. The Parietal Cells do not stop producing fluid, they loose the ability to combine Hydrogen-Ion into the fluids which makes the fluid acidic. When you are normally producing Hydrochloric Acid, the acid combined with the Peptic Enzymes break down the Nutrients and convert them into Proteoses and Peptones, which is the prerequisite for the building blocks of life, Amino Acids. When the Peptic Enzymes convert the nutrients consumed, B12 is readily absorbed into the body. If you not producing Hydrochloric Acid there is little or no conversion and no B12 absorption. In many cases when the Anemia is corrected, the Parietal Cell function will return, but not in all cases, which is why people have the reoccurrence of Anemia. The are many causes for anemia, poor diet, Insufficient Hydrochloric production (Hypochlorhydria or Achlorhydria) Acid Production, Iron Deficiency, infections, toxins, etc. Certain Medications will result in Anemia’s, Proton Pump Inhibitors, pH Blocking Medications, and certain antibiotics. A major portion of the world population, over the age of 50, but not limited to these age groups have diminished Hydrochloric Acid production, or Hypochlorhydria. Hypo or Achlorhydria will cause the onset of Allergies, and many other disorders, because unsterilized and unconverted protein is dumped into the Small Bowel. Virtually all Protein contains allergens that are normally destroyed in the Stomach by the Hydrochloric Acid. It these allergens are not destroyed in the Gut, they will cause serious side effect. I would highly suggest that you get a pH Diagnostic Test. I am not referring to the Naso-gastric test, which can be very traumatic, and the test results are questionable when determining the conversion factor. The test I am referring to is called the Heidelberg pH Diagnostic Test. The test is done with a tiny micro-electronic pH Capsule that you swallow with a sip of water. The pH Capsule transmits the pH information to a computer where it is displayed on a graph. The test will tell you if you have Hypochlorhydria (hidden or Obvious), Hyperchlorhydria, Achlorhydria, Pyloric Insufficiency, Heavy Mucus, GERD, Acute or Sub-acute Gastritis, and much more. You can get more information at www.phcapule.com.

I have been taking B12 shots for nearly a year now and must say that they have helped me a lot. May be they depend on the reason for why are to taking these shots. In my case, I had been experiencing numbness in my feet and leg, lot of tingling and digestive problems. Since then my GP suggested to take B12 shots which has helped me greatly.
