Hi I'm new here I was going to train in doing reiki but the reiki master refused blue to me have schitzoaffective disorder and borderline personality disorder. The reiki master said it could cause me to become unwell. I'm on a number of medications to keep me as stable as possible. I feel really disappointed because I wanted to learn reiki. Please can I ask an opinion on this. Thank you.

Your disappointment is understandable. Your reiki master is probably worried that it might be too much for you to handle and consequently it will trigger effects in you that might be too much for them to deal with....

Reiki master is a title that conveys that they have the attunement to all reiki symbols. They are not masters of energy so to speak. So their fear is understandable too. It's not just attuning you, they are aware that they will have to support your journey a lot more than that. They may or may not have skills or energy to do so.

Let's put it this way, when the mind is running in loops to create personality disorder and schizophrenia....is deep unsettledness. An unsettled mind can cause deep unrest playing with energy. You clearly feel that you can work with reiki for self help and I agree with you. The only thing is, you may need extra support in way of psychological guidance, counseling to handle energy effectively.
The whole idea is to be fully functional in your personal reality, whichever way your life is shaping itself. I suggest seek help to gain functionality withbin yoUr life before you seek reiki symbols.

That will be far more empowering and efficient

I suspect that s/he is probably worried that it might be too much for him/her to handle. A different master may have different views.
Our culture tends to demonise mental health issues and, consequently, people become scared.

I am also a master reiki practitioner and teacher and I would be happy to teach you if you lived in my area. I can see that you might need to be taught one-2-one rather than in a group but that is normal for me anyway. I can see that you might need more support afterwards. But a good reiki master is always there for their students. I know some reiki masters might believe your medication would affect the attunement, or be worried about how self healing would affect your medication but I do not subscribe to that view point. You would probably be more challenging than the average reiki student - but thats all. I suspect as others have said he is more worried about he will cope.

Symbols are not taught at level one, and I do not automatically progress my students to level 2 (when the first 3 symbols are taught) Some people teach one and two at the same time - and that is not something I would recommend for you.It could be overwhelming for you. If the master who refused you normally teaches then he was right to be cautious. No-one who teaches to the standards of the UK reiki federation will do combined 1 and 2. So I would suggest you go to their website and find a teacher in your area. Good luck.....and if you happen to live in the Birmingham area....well you will find me on their website 🙂

I'd recommend you try and find a Master/Teacher who is willing to teach you in-person. Reiki is a 'hands on' technique that is taught better in person than remotely.

I cannot say how much I agree with Giles on this. Do try to find someone who can teach you face-to-face

Hi,
I have searched for different healing modalities over the years that would help me overcome my issues, but recently came across a new type of healing....well I don't think it is new, but it is new to me...it is called Access Consciousness, and you train for giving bars... if you google access bars you will find lots of info. What it is, is the person will place their hands on your head in certain points, and it releases all kinds of blocks. There have been some really amazing results. I have had my bars done 3 times now and feel a huge difference in my mood. Things don't bother me like they used to. I was mildly depressed, without any desire to do or see anyone....in a matter of 3 weeks, my entire mood has shifted. This was with 3 sessions, and they weren't that expensive either.

This to me is a complex issue and needs careful thought. There are a number of things that have been found to be the underlying cause of mental illnesses in recent studies. One aspect I have heard of from 'spiritual' people and hence thought about, is how spiritually/energetically open an individual is. If that is a factor, then learning Reiki (through the initiation process) can stimulate increases in this, higher spiritual awareness, higher vibrations, more energetically open... etc This in turn can intensify the symptoms and have an impact on mental health, on medication, on mental health professionals perception of the illness... This can be damaging for the individual. If the underlying causes are physical/emotional, then Reiki I think would be useful.

I would suggest having a Reiki treatment first and seeing what the outcome is. If it is helpful, then learning Reiki should be ok, if it makes symptoms worse, I would steer clear of learning Reiki.

Speaking from my experiences of attunement & suffering my own mental health
difficulties with disaccociating.
Reiki was my balancing tool!
As Reiki works on all levels it knows what you need.
I strongly advise taking as long as it takes between attunements (if your thinking of working through the levels).

I am a master teacher & I am not practicing with others at the moment because I am
shifting so much of my own energy around it would be unethical to practise.
That said I use reiki everyday & the associated principles & diet to enable the flow of the change
I know I signed up too. Again reiki calls you & for me it was a few times before I was ready.

I am in a very difficult stage of integration with PTSD at the moment.
Reiki oils the stuck times & greases the corners.
So can sometimes feel like a quickening, that said it is love & light.
It brings about change & for this reason any mental health condition requires
consideration. I very much believe in pre attunement coaching where necessary.
Also personally I take lineage very seriously, any one coming to me is signing up to
my support for as long as they need it.
Anyone being honest with their own capacity to contain you is a master of their own containment.
I would take that as an ethical must.

Who ever you find & when, would be supported by your pre practising of some grounding techniques.
There are many examples online.
As Reiki is distributed proportionately, it is no shock to pre-existing polarised energy conditions.
Any schitzo = which I metaphorically describe as a seal fishing under ice, having entered a blow hole & planning to return to where he started. Only while under the ice he panics & comes up for air at a different blow hole & thinks "What the hell am I doing here?" & panics further.
Could be supported with some anchoring, grounding & affirmations elicited from you about the above metaphor.
EG I don't need to get from B (2nd blow hole) to A (1st blow hole) because I got from A to B.

Hey welcome to HP!

Love & light
Teresa
