Hi,
I am going through a difficult phase in my life at the moment. I am looking for some advice on heart attacks as unfortunately my uncle has been hit badly. Although the good news is he's alive and recovering although I still fear the worst.
I hope a doctor or someone with alot of knowledge in the medicine field read this as I am looking for what will happen next basically, whats common.
My uncle heart stopped and now revived through electric shock. He has been removed from the life support machine and is breathing on his own. Although the heart attack has had an effect on his brain he is tryin to regain his senses or hearing, seeing, feeling, tasting, smell. He is basically moving a little his arms and legs around and he opens and closes his eyes now and again. The doctors say only time will tell if he will regain his full senses basically.
I am wondering if anyone has or has knowen someone who has gone through this experience if so please please let me know your words will mean more than the world.
Thx.
RE: Heart Attacks (Experiences)
Hi,
Whilst I am not a doctor, I have worked on Intensive Care and Cardiac Care wards for a number of years.
There are a number of factors that have a large impact on prognosis. The largest of these is whether your uncle's heart stopped in hospital or out of hospital, and then how long was it before he had CPR or shock. The longer the delay in hospital treatment and in CPR, the worse the prognosis. It is not the heart attack itself that is the issue, people revoverfully from massive heart attacks. It is how long his body was without oxygen flowing through it, how long before CPR and electric shock that has the effect on brain function, hearing, seeing, etc.
As you said the good news is that your uncle is off life support, and is breathing for himself. This is very positive. As for recovery, I have been very pleasantly surprised a number of times. If your uncle is a fighter, and strong willed, with good family relationships, which it sounds like he has, then again his chances of a good recovery are much, much better.
Essentially,my point is, be there with him, and for him. Give him a reason to fully recover. All too often, those patients with little or no supportdo badly, and those with good support do well, irrespective of how severe the heart attack was.
It is very difficult, therefore, to give any really sensible purely scientific, medical advice. Your uncle's doctors, I'm sure are doing everything that they know how to, and will support him from this aspect. I personally believe, that the spiritual and family aspect is far, far more important.
Be there for him, love him, and be grateful for having him in your life, tell him this, and know that whatever happens is good, even if it is hard to accept at the time.
Hi Scot,
For some perspective, I had a silent ischemic heart attack several years ago. A heart attack (MI) kills heart cells (necrosis) from lack of oxygen, and as a consequence the heart loses some contractility and cardiac output is reduced and heart failure.
Or there can be a clot, etc. that occludes blood flow through the coronary artery causing heart arrest (stoppage).
Sometimes the heart cells are "stunned" after an MI and can be revitalized with oxygen and the start of the heartbeat. The lack of blood to the brain can cause temporary mental and emotional problems. Hope your uncle has overcome the medical problem.
Hi,
Heart attack comes several times depend upon the person conditions.
Hearth attack symptoms consider arrhythmia. My heart sometimes pain very much when I m think deeply and more beat comes due to tension. Better way to consult doctor and come to normal conditions.
Hi,
Some people confuse heartburn chest pain with a heart attack, but it's really a problem with the upper digestive system. Esophageal valve is not working properly and not protecting food pipe from hydrochloric acid produced by your stomach. This malfunction causes stomach acid to be forced up to the unprotected esophagus, which results in the mild to severe burning sensation we all know so well. If you want to cure your heartburn then I highly suggest you take action now and continue reading. You'll find that this website has all the GERD and heartburn facts you need to thoroughly understand the causes of heartburn and get rid of heartburn.
