Last night i was just lieing in bed doing a sodoku puzzle 🙂 and then i tensed my jaw not to hard but was just like when you get annoyed and grit your teeth. I suddenly got a sharp pain in the left side of my neck, and the instant i got it i stopped tensing and the pain died off. Ever since though the left side of my neck is tense and every time i tense my teeth i can feel it coming back. I think this is just my anxiety talking but my throat also feels tighter aswell, and ive been having to swallow a lot more and make sure i have a drink of water with me all the time in case i dont choke. is this related? Is this anything to worry about? Should i see a dr or just ignore it. Any comments are grateful thanks 🙂
Personally I would have my neck massaged, it sounds like the muscle has spasmed and now is having trouble relaxing.....or see an oesteopath who will probably massage it too along with giving some professional advice.
Hi Andrew
I have had spasms in my neck for 2 years now , specially left side, advice i can give you to help is put heat on the area , it helps me and yes as sue said massage will help, also please try keep exercising neck as you dont want the neck to seize. hope this helps take care Clareyangel x
I agree with a gentle massage to the area or seeing an osteopath. A word of caution using heat or cold near the side of the neck - best not to use over the carotid/jugular as it can sometimes alter your blood pressure very suddenly!
Another remedy you might consider is the Bowen Technique - very gentle but also very powerful as it resets and balances any muscles that are in contraction or excessive stretch. Bowen is also deeply relaxing and calming.
All the best and try not to stress! 🙂
