Hi All
I have had neck and back spasms for about 2 years need to lose weight but unsure what exercise to do , as scared of making condition worse, cannot swim as physio said it will put too much pressure on neck, same with aerobics.any ideas welcomed.
Thank you in advance

clareyangel,

Your physio has said what you CANNOT do ... has he/she said what you CAN do? If not, may I suggest you go back and ask him/her for a recommended exercise regime that will be appropriate for your condition. SURELY this should have been provided as a matter of course

I agree with Holistic. A good physio should be able to provide you with advice on what you can do given your condition.

Good luck

No problem, clareyangel, but members cannot edit THREAD titles ... only moderators can do that. That's why you had a difficulty with it.

If you would like me to make a change to this one, please reply here or send me a PM if you prefer, and I'll gladly do it for you. 🙂

agreed

I also suspect you've got the wrong end of the stick; swimming is about the best form of exercise going for people with dodgy spines. the advice was more likely to avoid breaststroke & butterfly (which involved reaching for the air with your neck). Freestyle is generally ok as you just turn your head with your shoulders, but can be an issue if you cannot turn your head either way; backstroke should be fine for anyone with a neck problem, unless you cannot hold your head straight (in which case, freestyle ought to be ok)

I am not a strong swimmer, and can only do breast stroke, but i may look into aqua aerobics, i like to be in the water.
