Have you tried keeping a food and drink diary? It really helps pinpoint triggers and causes and you can easily find how much stress affects you if you add in what you do.

Get hold of a copy of the book "Irritable Bowel Solutions" () which will help you to identify what type of IBS you have, and offer advice on the best way to tackle it.

GP's generally don't have a clue about IBS, sometimes saying you need to eat more fibre etc. which can actually make it worse for some sufferers.

My understanding is there are actually two sorts of fibre..........insoluble fibre - from wholemeal bread cereals etc, and soluble fibre as found in fruits. IIRC its the insoluble fibre which can cause problems in IBS.

Hi Katherine,
I know its been a while since this thread was posted to but I wanted to offer my 2 cents to it. My wife had IBS and our Aloe Vera worked wonders for her so I'd hope it can do the same for you.
If you're still looking for some relief from this please take a look at which has a brief testimonial at the top then goes on to explain how the Aloe can help with IBS, Candida and the like.
If you'd like to discuss this further I'd be glad to help.

Wishing you a speedy recovery (if not already!)
Luke

I also found that how you eat your food or your eating style may also affect your symptoms. Slowly eating small amounts of food can help to lessen your symptoms. To slow down my eating I try putting my fork down between bites. Also, try not to eat too close to bedtime. Eat your meals at least 2-3 hours before lying down or going to bed. To lower stress I have added meditation to may daily routine and it has helped tremendously. Sports activities can also help to regain balance with your mind and body.
I hope this helps.
All the best!

You must stop all wheat products.
I find that fresh Ginger root is excellent. Clean, and cut into small pieces and boil, then leave to cool, and drink the juice.

Dr Peter Atherton, a world expert on Aloe Vera, says (among his Top 10 Reasons to Drink Aloe Vera Gel): "Aloe Assists In Healthy Digestion". He goes on to say "A healthy digestive tract ensures that nutrients from the food we eat are absorbed into the bloodstream. There is clear, clinical evidence that by drinking Aloe Vera Gel the bowel is able to absorb these nutrients more efficiently, especially protein. I also suspect that many other substances are much better absorbed under its influence."
He adds: "Aloe Vera has a wonderfully beneficial action on bowel function which results in smooth and efficient transit of contents."
Certainly, my daughter has found this particular brand of very helpful in banishing her IBS!
Hope that helps.

Why?

Stomach ache can be caused by a number of problems, IBS is not necessarily worsened by wheat. The only reason to stop wheat would be wheat intolerance

Ginger is very good for some stomach issues - but can be irritant .

While I am sure for some this is good advice, it will not work for everyone

Mint tea is proven to be effective in relieving stomach ache and nausea. Drink 2-4 ounces of water every 15 minutes while you are awake to try and keep hydrated.
