Sounds horrible doesn’t it. What’s more disgusting is if I have enjoyed a meal, I can sometimes have it again!
I’m approaching 50 but seem to remember doing this since school and have never really thought about it until recently. I’m sure I used to bring my food up in the playground on purpose, maybe for attention seeking? Perhaps those actions then have led to my body doing this ever since. Nowadays, I sit at the table at meal times and let my dinner go down and then sit on the settee and can be watching telly and maybe a few hours at least pass by and my stomach just starts shoving big mouthfuls of food back into my mouth.
I don’t think I am overweight about 12.5 stone 5 foot 9 and being such an age I have paunch just below my breastbone which just seems extra big and bloated since I was 37.
As I say it’s been a long time, but I have only recently thought about it and the fact it may mean there is something not quite right somewhere in my stomach. What do you think the doctor will say. I looked at hiatus hernia but don't suffer with any symptons there and no bile problems.
Thanks and sorry if the first line wasn’t too tasteful!

Hi Pip some of the symptoms sound as though they may be related to a Hiatus Hernia.

Babies and animals bring up anything their body decides it would prefer not to digest. They do this to avoid poisoning, putrefaction of undigestible material, avoid the energetic requirement of absorbing something they don't need, to make room for something they'd find more nutritious, or if their body is doing something more urgent than digestion and needs to give undivided attention to it.

Us adults learn to suppress this response out of a sense of decorum, as a consequence we probably absorb all sorts of things politely that may not be very good for us.

With pain I always say obey your body and seek help for the underlying cause.

With this I'd say the same - spit it out down the loo, and check in with an holistic practitioner who will look at why this is happening.

Dear Pip G,

Quick clarification: are you swollowing back the already digested food..or are you finding that you spit it /vomit it out..as this could be sings of unconscious Bulimia tendencies.

It sounds more like a learnt behaviour that can very easily be unlearnt..as long as there is the desire to STOP this ritual and involuntary way your body has trained itself to do ..not long after the meal time.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Neuro-linguistic programming or Hypnosis can help to break this cycle.. however I would 1st get the all clear from your Doctors 1st.
Your stomach acidity could be very much at a state of imbalance..

Pip your body mass index is around the normal mark of 25.8 ..(only very slightly out...you are right I wouldn't worry about your current weight )..although if you think your life is very inactive..taking up some physical exercise to keep well and healthy may also help reduce the bloatedness.

Take care of your self Pip!

with warm wishes
Vathani

There is also a simple possibility of lack of stomach acid. Seeing a nutritional therapist will sort that out in no time! I have posted about this in detail in the past somewhere but I'm not very good at finding old posts!
