Please help me
I have been abusing laxatives for almost 3 years now and have become addicted. i take at least 18 tablets a day now, sometimes more. usually dulcolax but i will take anything i can find.
I know i need to face up to this and stop but when try i become extremely uncomfortable and distressed. i already eat a diet consisting of oats and linseeds (50:50) tons of fruit and herbal teas. I do not eat any junk or processed food.
i cant face going to my gp as he knows my family and me well.
is there a way i can do this on my own?

Hi there Molly

This is very difficult for you but I feel you need support to help you through this rather than doing it on your own. Would you re-consider talking to your GP about it? I can understand that you feel its a bit awkward because you and your family know him well, but in his professional role he will be able to point you in the right direction to get the help and support you need.

You have obviously got to the point where you want to things to change and that is very positive. I was wondering if you started using laxatives because of constipation problems or as a way to control your weight. If its the latter, you could get some help and advice on the website below:

Hope this is helpful. Take care.

Heya Molly

As sebenny said, first port of call should really be your GP.
If you truly can't face up to going to your GP, there are a lot of alternative therapies that could be used to treat this.
My suggestion would be to seek out a practitioner of the EFT or NLP persuation (check out the mind therapies forum here on HP). These therapies are generally painless (maybe only a little bit of crying involved although we try and avoid it ;)).

It's possible to attempt self-treatment of any condition, but with something as serious as what you are describing which I suspect has some underlying causes, you really need to see someone who will know how to handle all the issues around this.

If you'd like any more info on EFT there's plenty on the mind therapies forum or you can PM me if you like.

I'm confident you'll be able to sort this.

Love and Reiki Hugs

Hi Molly,

Don't worry about your GP telling your family. Your consultation with him is strictly confidential so if you can, I would advise going as they do have methods to wean you off your high dose of laxatives gently.
