Hi!

Can anyone give me some advise on massage/reflexology and cancer?

I am treating a friend of mine who's husband has cancer and have been asked to treat her husband. He has renal cancer, and now has secondary cancer in the lung, which he is treating with interferon at home.I have been given the impression that the treatment is to slow the growth of the cancer as oposed to trying to get rid of the cancer, there is no planned operations.Iam limited at the moment as to what exactly is going on, but this is the feedback I am getting from his wife.

As a student I was taught to never treat anyone with cancer, but am feeling fustrated by this limitation, any advise would be great, I really feel I can help my friends husband, but am not confidentas tothe best way to go about this.

My gut feeling is to try hand/foot/head massage but feel I could do a lot more that would support him, but am unsure of the best route...

On another note, he is very interested in Reiki, anyone know someone in the Tamar Valley area??

Many Thanks xxx

RE: massage and cancer

Hi

I have just been given the all clear from bowel cancer. I did a massage course a few weeks after finishing chemotherapy. The hospital said I shouldnt have massage myselfin any form until 2 months afterfinishing thetherapy as massage stimulates the lymph glands and cancer cells will pass round the body. So I would imagine it would be inadvisable to do massage in the instance you mention.

However, Reiki is fine and I was able to have Reiki all thro my illness and in fact did self healing having taken first degree.

Hope this helps.

love

Laceylou

Hey Seph, I hope you are well. You might want to get in touch with the Bristol Cancer Help Centre, I know they offer specialist courses for therapists and those working with cancer patients, they may be able to offer you some useful advise. http://www.bristolcancerhelp.org/

Best wishes.
