Both my son and I have had chemo and I haven't heard this.

We have both spent a few years in and out of oncology wards.

Hi froggy

I have not heard that one before - as far as I know they are not transmitted via touch, maybe you are thinking of radiotherapy? Unless there is something I wasn't warned about when I worked at the hospice.

I think this is to do with radiotherapy. A friend of mine (and also my mum a long time ago) could not have close contact with her daughter due to radioactive drink they had to have to kill their thyroid gland.

Yes, you probably mean the radioactive isotopes used in various procedures such as PET scans, etc. There is often a period of isolation for the patient and then they are advised not to be in contact with young children for a couple of weeks.

I'm sure the hospice wouldn't put you at any kind of risk, but if you are concerned, you should be getting some kind of clinical supervision, so it's best to speak to your supervisor so that they can explain things for you.
