Hi there,
it's amazing the things you find out when on this journey!
I found out yesterday that if you have had an urgent referral for surgery then the NHS policy is to have this done within 62 days. Apparently Cancer Centres are audited for this so try very hard to comply!
For those of us who seem to be left in limbo as regards to WHEN we will get our treatment this may be comforting to know that there is actually a time limit (even if no one bothers to tell us!).
If the Mods and others here are happy with me to keep posting these bits of info then I will be happy to continue to share. If not then I will also be happy to stop bothering people lol.

I don't speak as a mod, reikiangel, but I for one am happy for you to continue posting. Firstly, it's interesting and informative and may one day come in useful (though I pray not.) Secondly, it helps to know that you're still hanging on in there and being positive. Every time I see a post from you I remember to send you good vibes and healing - so you carry on, girl!!

When I went into hospital for my thyroid operation I was nosey and had a quick look at my file. Found a form with details for my op and it had urgent ticked with 2/12 meaning within 2 months. Like reikiangel I did some searching on the net and found some NHS info, it said that once cancer was mentioned to the patient it had to be dealt with within 62 days. Mine was all dealt with within 27 days of going to outpatients, operation on the Tuesday afternoon back home the next afternoon. Only had half of the thyroid taken away and the nodule didn't have any cancer I'm pleased to say.
And one day in hospital for a hemi-thyroidectomy isn't enough I really needed longer but then I think thats why the waiting lists are getting shorter.

I know when my husband had a PSA test with the GP and it was slightly raised, we were told that she had a duty to ensure that he saw a specialist within two weeks.
Thankfully, after follow ups with the urologist, he was reassured that his symptoms weren't due to cancer.
Hi Aromababe,
I'm so glad your husband was seen and got the all clear so quickly. I'm sure you were both very relieved!
I was also referred by my GP to the 2 week referral Skin Clinic and was seen by the Consultant within 2 weeks. From then on my appts were weekly and 'urgent'. I had the initial consultation, a week later the day surgery for the removal of the melanoma and 11 stitches, dressing and tubi grip from toe to knee (very fetching lol!), a week later to check the site and change dressing, the following week the diagnosis ("malignant and aggressive and we need to make sure no cells left behind"), referred to Plastic Surgeon the following week who explained what needed to be done (further wide excision of the site then skin graft and Sentinal Node Biopsy) and he was booking me in at another hospital that had the specialist unit for this as 'urgent' and I would be seen within the next few weeks.
Three weeks later after two phonecalls from me to the other hospital's Sec I received an appt for the 29th Sept but for OUTPATIENT'S!!! So, from being seen weekly and classed as urgent I will have waited over 5 weeks for the next appt and still no idea of when the surgery will be. Hence my research lol.

Hi Cis,
thanks for sharing your experience too. I'm glad you also were sorted out quickly but what a shame you were let out so quickly. I think sometimes hospitals forget you are worried sick about having cancer, it's not just the physical trauma but emotional as well. It seems once the surgery is done you are left on your own! Plus all the concerns about how you are healing. I suppose though with all the worries about MRSA and C.Diff it's probably better that you get sent home early lol.
Take care

Hi Reikiangel
Thanks for asking. Yes, the mods are quite happy for you to continue to post valuable info here, and I'm sure others will be most appreciative too.
I'll edit the 'sticky' at the top of the forum to update it with links periodically, and in the meantime I've sent you a PM as well.
