Just back from first appointment with consultant orthopedic surgeon. He spent a goodly while looking at my MRI which was pretty black. 'There's a lot going on with your spine' he muttered.

So what I thought would be an insision at L4/L5 and out the next day, he is going to make four; both sides of L4/L5 and L5/S1. I will be in hospital for 3 or 4 nights.

Goodness knows how long recovery will be. He is pretty confident he can relieve the right leg sciatica but the numbness in both feet may not be reversible as I have had the foot drop on right foot and lack of ankle lift on the left leg for several months.

This makes me cross because I contacted the GP the day I woke up to find my left foot was numb (July) and went to the surgery to see the duty doctor when the foot drop started (August) and was prescribed Tramadol.

Hi i also have numbness and foot drop but in my left foot , I had my first op about 3 years ago and still have the same problems with my foot so I guess it's something we have to learn to live with good luck with an op that big Iam sure your surgeon knows best although I think I would also have a few wobbles good luck:)
