I would just like to say that I find it quite upsetting that people keep using the statement 'horror stories' on here. They are not this at all they are our lives and we do not put our stories on here to scare others, we are looking for support from others who understand what we are going through. Unfortunately not everyone has a good outcome from having back surgery and it is normally once things have gone wrong we try to find others like us. If my surgeries had been successful I would not have been looking for support, nor would I have made rash statements about other people's 'horror stories'!

I have not messaged for a long time because of this issue but feel it unfair that I feel that I can no longer take part in case I am misunderstood. So please people try and be aware that whilst those of you who have a good outcome are posting this information, that those of us who haven't been so fortunate are not telling our outcomes to shock or scare, just to share.

Hi Wend,
I am sure that some of the people who have used the phrase 'horror stories' have not intentionally used it in a derogatory manner. As a new person to this site I have interpreted it that they are wanting to tell their positive outcomes of surgery.
I am presently waiting to have a discectomy and have found hearing both the positive and negatives of surgery a benifit. I am now far more aware that surgery is not a quick fix and on some occasions is not a fix at all!
I believe that the reason for joining forums like this is to enable us to find some support/offload to people who are unfortunate enough to be experiencing the same pain as ourselves, and to share ways which have helped or not as the case may be.
If it had not been for this site I believe that I would have been entering into surgery wearing rose tinted glasses, as it is I now believe I am consenting to this with my eyes wide open hoping for a positive outcome. I am grateful for those people who have posted both positive and negative stories on this forum as it has given me a true picture on what post surgery may hold for me.
