Hi Guys

I'm 6 weeks post op and have today been discharged by my surgeon!!!! He has told me I can go back to all exercise building up gradually of course but am free to do anything! Two conditions, no heavy lifting for another 3 months and no high impact classes.

As a Fitness Instructor this is the best news I could have had and was close to tears when he said I can return to teaching.

I have no sciatica but do have a small amount of pain in lower back. He assured me this was perfectly normal as I have 2 spinal nerves at my op site and these will take a bit longer to heal. (most people only have 1!!)

Anyone who is still suffering with awful sciatica, disc problems etc, my thoughts are with you. There is no worse pain in the world. Dont let the NHS fob you off, keep pushing for help.

I know the surgery is not for everyone and is not a quick recovery but is is worth giving every consideration to.

All the best of luck to those who are due for surgery, keep positive and do as you are told!! I look forward to reading all about them. I intend to still be on this forum regularly.
All the best for now
Take care

Hey Fitbird,

Well I'm now over a year with my prolapsed disc and my right leg pain from buttock to feet is still awful. Getting into and driving a car is still pain 100% of the time.

I'm going back to the Neuro Surgeon in 2 weeks privately and although I'm not saying I want an operation I just want a goal, a light at the end of the tunnel. A time where I'm not waking up every night at 4am with deep pain in my whole leg and having to pop co-codamol and ibruprofen which after half an hour kicks in and gives me 2 hours sleep before the pain returns.

I would love my normal life back.

Good luck to you Fitbird.

pain!

Hi Dragerboy

You sound the perfect candidate for the surgery. I had the disc prolapse for 8 months before surgery and was in constant pain and pill popping just like you, whatever I could get my hands on!

i think if you have suffered for 6 months or more the chances of getting better on your own are very slim and to get your life back the op may be the only solution. Give it great consideration but the person with the best advice is your surgeon. I was lucky and got this on the NHS but would have gladly paid if this was my only option.

Good luck for your coming appointment, If you decide on surgery you could be in the hospital within 2 weeks of seeing the surgeon!!

I still have aches and pains but it does not stop me doing anything, shoes and socks are a breeze!!

Keep in touch

Thanks FitBird,

You sound like me in most respects. I'm on the two drugs mentioned plus two anti depressants which have helped slightly but although the pain is less you can still feel the same pain but in a kind of after shock way. Brain too clever.

I actually saw this Surgeon back about 8 months ago and his apprentice checked over my MRI's then took them to the surgeon and came back and said no. Pain clinic after that which has done nothing.

My company are paying for the consultation so I dont know what will happen after this. Might have to go on the NHS waiting list.

To put on my socks and shoes normally I'd be in heaven!
