RE: what kind of natural medicine?

Try Glocosamine and Chondoitin with vitamins C, E and a strictly vegan diet

RE: what kind of natural medicine?

I am just wondering...... are gluosamine and chondoitin vegan products? I have slight arthritis in my knee though I don't take anything for it as the pain is not bad.

Thanks,

Love & blessings,

Rachel

Glucosamine is definately vegan. Chondroitin however, i really doubt if it's vegan. But it really helps arthritis as our cartilages are made of this substance.

Meat and Dairy, caffeine, carbonated drinks, alcohol, tobacco, white sugar and excessive salt make arthritis much worse! I had arthritis when i was 25 and literally couldn't move or walk. My life became a nightmare and only when i became vegan and started swimming (later) i saw relief. Now i'm still vegan and totally healthy...

Glucosamine is not vegan - it's made from shellfish and contains a warning that it can't be taken by folk with seafood allergy (though this is disputed). See [link= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glucosamine#Safety ]wikipedia[/link] "Since glucosamine is usually derived from shellfish, those allergic to shellfish or who have kosher concerns may wish to avoid it. However, since glucosamine is derived from the shells of these animals while the allergen is within the flesh of the animals, it is probably safe even for those with shellfish allergy".

Higher Nature however sell a non-shellfish glucosamine (I think that it is not sulphate, but hydroxide) - but this is not supposed to be as effective, is a squillion times more expensive, and the strength is weaker.

I have a fabulous oil that I use: Weleda 'massage balm with arnica'. It isn't ayurvedic, sorry, but its base is sunflower oil. I put about a penny's worth on my hand and rub it with my palm over my knee. I do that after my bath when my skin is warm. I find that it really helps.

Good luck.

Neukolnn,

I did think I that I read somewhere that Glucosamine was made from shellfish. Though Health Freak here says that Chonroitin maybe not, My mum has bad arthritis but relies on what the doc prescribes. Since I have done holistic therapies she does enjoy and gets benefit from her massages etc so I wil have a look for the massage balm you mentioned. I wil try it myself on my knee which isn't bad really but sometimes flares up with our Irish weather!! I was just wondering if there were anything out there that was vegan.

Thanks,

Love & blessings,

Rachel

My sister went on the 'Eating for Your Blood Type for arthritis' diet by Dr D'Adamo (?) and cured her acid reflux, arthritis and lost 50 lbs to boot !!! Wheat, meat and dairy among other thingswere on her blood-type hit list.
