RE: Products and Treatment...

My 10yr+ Golden Retreiver, Henry has been diagnosed with an arthritic hip, we have been aware that this could happen as his hip scores were good on one side but very high on the other. As a result we have had him on Glucosamine for years, and steady exercise to develop maximum muscle support without causing too much dysplasia. He's now on Forever Freedom, 2 desstsp per day, and 1/2 a Rimadyl per day, and I am starting Synoquin to replace the Glucosamine in order to keep his other joints free of arthritis for as long as possible, he does have an old shoulder injury on the same side as the dyplastic hip. He has also been wearing a Bioflow magnetic collar for about 6 years, we are on the second collar bit!

The long walks of the past are over, but he seems pain free and very content and very mobile around the house and garden.

His nephew has an arthritic hock, and similar aids are given but not the Rimadyl and he's responding well except in very wet weather, but this is wear and tear arthritis, and once on his feet is very mobile.

ORIGINAL: Sherringham

Found out the other day that some dogs fare better on Metacam, its an alternate to Rimadyl.

There are contra-indications to Metacam ... can cause liver problems. They were detailed on the leaflet.

One of my dogs was on it for several years. When unexplained vomiting began, I took her off it and observed her movement for a couple of weeks. The vomitting stopped, her movement was fine, but I checked with the vet(having moved house and therefore vet in the meantime) who was quite snorty about a dog having been given a drug it didn't need.

That isn't to say it may not be of great value with no side effects for other dogs.

RE: Products and Treatment...

I have tried pretty much everything, I have suffered from ostearthritis in my knees since I was 20 (now 32) at the time I was given cortisone injections (about 10 times in each knee) but these days you cant get those so easily, so I have tried all sorts of holistic things until I found what worked!
And this aromatherapy blend is trulya miracle, since discovering it I have not taken any pain medication at all.(after spending 8-10 years eating them like bread this is truly improvement)

aromatherapy blend
25ml base oil
blackpepper 5 drops
chamomile 5 drops
rosemary 5 drops
marjoram 5 drops

massaged into knees twice a day when painfull.

Other thing that has helped and also helps on other forms of rheumatism (and various other things)is Cats Claw (Uncaria Tomentosa) which can be found in health stores. I take on of those daily and also cod liver oil capsules.

The above combo keeps me going and has made life 98% painfree 😀
