Hi
I am coming to terms with being newly diagnosed with osteoarthritis, I am 35. Everywhere I have looked on the net says how rare it is before 40. My GP seems to just pass it off as "its osteoarthritis" I am taking Naproxen as my OA started with severe back pain and has progressed recently to my wrist, foot, knee and finger.
Any advice and support would be appreciated, as I am feeling very low, I have the support of a lovely husband and five year old son, but would love to do the normal parenting activities that I find impossible.
thanks for listening
RE: newly diagnosed!
Hi there,
I am 32 and have had pains for over 10 years...so I was under 20 when mine started and only year ago they finally diagnsed my knees to have osteoarthritis, they aren't even really interested in finding out what is worng with my back. Not that I am interested anymore! [:'(]I figure I have either arthritis or rheumatism in my back (my dad has rheumatoid arthritis and my mum ostearthritis)
I vowed a few years ago that I will not live rest of my life on painkillers so I have looked at the alternative options and have found great help from Chiropractors and aromatherapy.
I have madea few earlier posts with some recepies on using aromatherapyoils in baths & massage for arthritis. Have a nosey around...
RE: newly diagnosed!
Hi maz3718,
I'm a new member and unfamiliar with these forum things but I wanted to sharemy experiences with others who like me went through many agonizing years suffering with Arthritis.
I was diagnosed several years ago with arthritic shoulder and neck but also had the start of it in my right knee.
To cut a long story short I went through the usual Chanel's doctor specialist but nobody could offer any solutions other than risky op's and I just couldn't get on with the drugs or rather my body rejected them giving me severe side effects.
A good friend of mine suggested I try alternative remedies as these would not give me the side effects a there was no danger of long term damage to otherorgans in body.
If you would like to know more please PM me.
Yours truly
johnnyhoz

RE: newly diagnosed!
Dear Moss - it sounds like psoariatic arthritis. The type of arthritis associated with psoriasis.
If the joint problemsappeared before any other symptoms, then it's not unreasonable to mistake it for osteoarthritis.
Andrew.
RE: newly diagnosed!
PS To Maz - it's really not so rare before the age of forty.
Equally untrue is that there is nothing that can be done to help and I don't mean just taking anti-inflammatories & pain killers.

I've just gone past 43 and I left the Army with damaged knees, lower back and ankles from running around carrying a lot of weight; MRI scans showed that I had tears in the cartliage in my knees and the physio determined that the bottom 4 lumbar units of my back were 'glued' together. It was very uncomfortable and I was in pain when I knelt down to pick up my son [he's 2]. I found that drinking an aloe vera drink called Forever Freedom really has helped me, so much so that now I don't feel that there is anything going on. It contains condrotine, glucosamine & MSM, all of which are naturally occuring sulphates in our joints. MSM helps to thicken the natural lubricants in the joints.
I'm a convert to it, I've been drinking it for a year now and I feel so much better for doing so.

I have some alternative beliefs and approaches about this area - pop me a PM if you would like to know more 😉
RE: newly diagnosed!
Excuse me but, this is just about a bit of wear and tear. Come on girls and boys, who over the age of 30 hasn't looke in the mirror and seens ome creases in your skin, around your eyes where you smile? Your lips where you pout?
This is just a bit of wear and tear. You need Feldenkrais!!!
After all
If yo always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.
Stop being a victim to time, and take action to change and prevent further degeneration!!
Wear and tear is just about
1. What you inherit, in the way of strong tissue
2. How you use it.
3. How you look after yourself.
Want to know more PM me.
