RE: osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia

Hi Kath [sm=wave.gif]

I wondered if you've seen this thread on Fibromyalgia/ME? Quite a few people suggest that reflexology might help. There are other useful tips posted there as well.

Hope this helps.[sm=hug.gif]

Hi angelroses,

You might want to look into mangosteen juice.
I have heard positive feedbackfrom several people with arthritis, fibromyalgia and even mild/moderate depression.
Make sure the product contains the whole fruit, it should contain the rind or pericarp as that is the part that contains the beneficial nutrients.

Hope you mange to find something that helps you.

Evista

I've spotted yr reply and would be definitely interested in details of this book. I have treated 2 clients with the condition and both responded well to a 'hybrid' of reflexology (when muscles were very sore) and aromatherapy (when client could bear me to touch them)

Thanks in advance

HI [sm=angel-smiley-027.gif]

NO CURE for fibromyalgia... Oh phoooey!!

The question to ask is: Is dis-ease physical or energetic?

The answer would be dependant upon one's perspective and what one inherentlyknows, based upon experience.

Using a Western scientific model, fibromyalgia could be described as muscle soreness and symptomatic fatigue. There are multiple causes, and like back pain, it can be very difficult to pin-point the cause. Much of western medicine has improved to a point, where it now includes alternative (if westernised approaches) to healing, such as trigger point therapy. However the system isfinancially constrainted, and partisan to the drugs companies. Hence a pill to deal with the symptoms, rather than a diagnosis and a cure.

Using an 'Eastern'energy-basedmodel the dis-ease would be seen as just that... dis-ease, and the healer will be focused on how to best heal the whole by dealing with the cause. Useful therapies include accupuncture, hands off healing such as Reiki, and most essentially chi-gung.

Nutrition also plays a MASSIVE role in our overall health, particularly in the case of water (natures best anti-inflammatory), vitamins and minerals. Theseare important factors to consider when treating FM.

Similarly so is movement. Movement whilst difficult,is an essential part of life; pain or no. If possible, I would highly recommend finding a good tai-chi class/ teacher (worth the investment). Whilst based upon similar principles to yoga, it is much softer and therefore offers many healing practices for someone with limited mobility. In its simplest form tai-chi and it's predecessor taoist yoga, aim to put circles into the joints (think shoulder rolls whilst at the PC or hula-hoop circles for your hips). However the BIG difference is that you focus entirely on how you feel, which is ably demonstrated through our breath. Embryonic breathing is a beginning practice in taoist yoga, and helps you to become more aware of feel through the breath and thereby have more control overenergy levels. The next stage is the tai-chi form or similar taoist exercises such as chi-gung... There ARE proven cures' for the likes of 'fibromyalgia' within chi-gung exercise practise.

You mention that you've experienced osteoarthritis for years. How many years? and is the condition familial, has it been inherited?

To my mind & on an energetic level, it appears your condition appears to havea radiating effect. By that I mean, it would be difficult not to imaginethe osteoarthritis not having a radiating effect on the muscles. This is how a lot of function works in the body (radiating to the next organ, muscles, skin), including pain. And yes pain has a function. It tells us to slow down, stop, associate. Deepak Chopras book Quantum Healing would be another good sign-post on the way to a cure.

You canonly find a cure, when you believe in one, and then take it! Like all good medicine ;o)

If you have been experiencing ongoing symptoms of pain, fatigue, and muscle stiffness, you may be wondering if you actually have Fibromyalgia syndrome. Osteoarthritis is one of the most common types of arthritis, currently affecting over 20 million Americans.
Osteoarthritis is often confused with fibromyalgia, because it shares many of the same symptoms. Overlapping symptoms include:

  • muscle pain
  • morning stiffness
  • limited range of motion

My friend has a psoriasis and she also suffered from the symptoms you post. They said that osteoarthritis is also related on that.

Hi,

There is definitely a link with nuclear medicine - if anyone suffers with fibromylagia and had had barium tests then they should do a complete detox as we have seen a complete recovery with some of our clients!

I think there is a way to reduce fibromyalgia

Hi, I know how deadful this condition can be. It is so frustrating for me to see people suffering out there when there is a way to reduce it until it disappears. Here is a letter from Fiona, who tried this new therapy. if you would like to get in touch with her, I will try to send you a private message with her telephone number.

From Fiona -
I have suffered from fibromyalgia for a 7 year period. Over this time I have tried many different types of medication for pain relief, referral to pain clinics, acupuncture and various alternative therapies most of which were ineffective or effective only for short periods.
I mentioned to Olivia that I was suffering from regular disabling pain which made my life miserable whilst she was treating me for something else and she suggested that a new therapy might help with the pain. I was highly cynical but happy to give anything a go!
Through regular practise of the new technique I have managed to reduce the pain to the point where I now only suffer a low and manageable level of pain and only on occasional days do I need to resort to pain relief. Indeed in warmer weather my symptoms have stopped completely. This has totally changed my life which was previously dominated by the misery of constant pain.
We may not fully understand how the brain can affect the body but clearly it can. This is such a clear case of the success this new therapy can achieve with physical ailments that I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
I was very apprehensive about trying this new therapy at first as I think most people are. Fiona Brickman, Bournemouth.

Fibromyalgia - osteoarthritis - do they damage the immune system

Hi all,
This is my first contact with you. I read everything I can on fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis and wondered if they harm the immune system.
I have suffered with both of these for years and a year ago developed an "ulcer" on my leg which has been diagnosed as PYODERMA GANGRENOSUM.
This is so painful and difficult to treat and I believe that a poor immune system is part of the cause.
Does anyone know anything about this, please? Even my doctor had not seen it before and although the nurses at our practice clean and dress it twice a week it is not healing.
Would love to hear from someone who has had this.
Bye Glasselgig

With osteoarthritis, have you considered Glucosamine?

  • Health Benefits: Glucosamine eases pain, reduces inflammation and increases the range of motion of joints. Chondroitin works well with Glucosamine Sulphate, providing cartilage and ligaments with their flexibility and helping to maintain hydration of joints by attracting water to the tissues.
  • Health Notes: Glucosamine is used to treat arthritis around the world and is especially effective for osteoarthritis. Glucosamine Sulphate is the preferred form of glucosamine for arthritis as a very high percentage is absorbed and it is very effective at relieving the condition.

I sourced this from

Might be worth having a look.

Ruby.

Hi there,,

I too have fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis and chronic back pain - yes it is depressing and the pain is horendous at times, the weather affects me something rotten but we have to get through it and I HATE taking medication and WILL NOT summit to it unless I hit rock bottom and then and only then will I have afew days on medication I'm 45 and try not to think about living like this for many years to come.

Whilst having all these problems, I have completed a course in complementary therapies and am now VTCT fully qualified in reflexology, massage, aromatherapy, reiki, hot stones and have just started training as a curative hypnotherapist!
I don't have loads of money to spend on therapies for myself that's where doing this course has come in handy, me and another therapist get together once a week and give each other treatments!

I have three dogs that NEED to be walked so whether I like it or not they HAVE to have their walks and after the walk which is roughly one hour and a half in fields - I feel knackered but at least I've done something that is extremely good for me and the dogs!
whilst walking the dogs I listen to audio books, usually comedy to make me feel happy and make me laugh, I've recently been listening to Ricky Gervais and kept looking around to see if anyone was about cause I must have looked like a right nutter laughing my head off!
Lousie Hay audiobooks are quite inspiring!

I also find 'self hypnosis' is a wonderful thing, the sessions last about 30 mins and you would be surprised how wonderful and nearly painfree that 30 mins can be!

Reflexology is an amazing tool for these conditions...BUT I find it has to be fairly deep treatment and not a 'fairy touch' treatment, this relaxes all the tensions in your body, it fab!

You have to find something that works for you without going out and spending loads of money on this and that, it very hard and trying to be positive is not easy but it does help!

It's hard to come to terms with having this condition but I try not to let it have me..if you get my meaning!

chin up...I hope you find the answer for u...

Susan

not nice...

We all know that how we think effects how we feel and this is so important with problems like Fibromyalgia which can present with all manner of distressing symptoms including pain and fatigue.

The trigger points that people find painful with Fibromyalgia can be help by self massage using rollers or a trigger point hook. If you dont want to do it yourself, then the same can be done for you by a therapist.

Relaxing and tackling your emotional state to be happy and content with life can also help to bring your body back into a healthy balance.
This can be through hypnotherapy, counselling or coaching or taking up a hobby that takes your mind off things.
Singing and laughter are great ways to get a good endorphine buzz and feel less pain.
Laughter yoga, is a fun way to get the effect of laughing if you dont feel you can raise a smile

Hope you feel better soon
