my doctor says my vitamin d is low would that cause aches and pains in my joints
Hiya
It's possible. In children, vitamin D deficiency causes rickets: from what I remember, it's because lack of vitamin D makes your bones go soft.
Do you drink milk? Do you go out in the sunshine at all? That would put things right.

yes it was some basic and natural way of getting your bone stronger. It also help to take some herbal supplements and of course eating some healthy food will definitely takes effects very much. Lack of vitamin D are those people who prone to osteoporosis which usually happen when get older at the age of 60 above.
Vitamin D deficiency is becoming more common in the UK affecting about 1 in 5 adults.
Certain groups are more at risk than others, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people who don't go outside much or cover their skin when they do go out. Certain medical conditions can prevent the body from processing vitamin D as well as the side effect of certain drugs.
There is plenty of information in the Internet about the causes and effects, but if your GP hasn't explained to you that it's a medical or lifestyle reason, then ask him/her to explain it to you.

Here's the "official" information about vitamin D deficiency from the website that doctors use to give information to their patients.
Hi Lauraalana,
I too have this problem with very low vitamin D levels causing high levels of parathormone. (secondary hyperparathyroidism) I have had several vitamin D preparations etc and still my levels of vit D will not rise. I have chronic pain in all my joints and my GP shrugs his shoulders and says "it must be arthritis then". I have had tests for Coeliac, Crohns etc and they are all negative. I really don't know where to go from here.
Vitamin D helps the body absorb Calcium, and Calcium is needed for healthy bones, teeth and nails. The body naturally produces vitamin D when in the sun. You can buy a vitamin supplement containing both Calcium and Vitamin C (from supermarkets or health stores).
vitamin D shortage
I too have a vitamin D shortage and am having problems with joints and muscles especially in my arms. Need to know how to overcome this, especially as I don't go in the sun much and I don't drink milk!
