RE: 2nd Jan Failed @ giving up smoking

Day 5 is good going Queenfe :):)

My sleep pattern was very disturbed when i first quit, so iam afraid thats quite normal, but it does get better.

Are you able to do some exercise or go for a walk? Dont fight the crave - just let it pass over you, just try to accept that they are part and parcel of the process. And remember they do not last for ever.

Have you read Allan Carrs book? Also Gillian Rilleys easy way to give up smoking. Both are very good.

Try [link= http://www.ivequit.com ]WWW.ivequit.com[/link] or [link= http://www.Whyquit.com ]WWW.Whyquit.com[/link] for support.

Good luck

RE: 2nd Jan Failed @ giving up smoking

Giving up smoking was probably the most challenging thing I've ever done. I gave up 5 years ago with my local NHS trust's Quit Smoking group. It really helped me to share the experience with other people although at the end of the day I realised it was my own desire to give up that was the secret. As a group we looked closely at the times we had our 'favourite' cigarette then ensured we did something different at those times. I actually stopped going to the pub for 2 years as I couldn't be in that situation without desperately wanting a cigarette. Now I cannot wait for the ban to come into force as pubs are generally still a no-go area now simply because of the stink!! I arranged a major re-decorating project at home to keep me busy. My husband continued to smoke which was hard especially because he also really stank! After 18 months of me not smoking he gave up too which was fantastic! I too realise that as with any other addiction I cannot just have another cig or even a puff as I would be hooked again. I know this as I gave up 15 years ago for a year and it only took one puff for me to smoke again for 15 years. I look back now and feel angry at all the waste of money!

:DDay 5.....and doing well! I never thought I would get this far, so I'm really pleased. My house is extra clean where I've wanted to keep myself busy, and also toget rid of the horrible stale smoke thats been lingering. And its been so nice not having smelly smokey hair and clothes
too [:@]
Just think all the money we will be saving, all us ex smokers, we should put all that money away that we would normally spend on cigs, and treat ourselves to something really nice.

Good luck all x Jill x

RE: 2nd Jan Failed @ giving up smoking

that's what i've been doing jill.. i've been puttingthe money i would normally spend on ciggies in a tin every day.. it's my learning to drive fund..

seersha.. well done for quitting for good.. after reading the part in your post abouta 'favourite' ciggie, i've come to the conclusion that mine is after meals.. that's the one that i seem to be missing most.. the craving soon passes though, and let's face it.. the dishes get washed much faster..

CrystalSeer.. so sorry toread about your dog.. hope this one brings you lots of happiness too..[sm=dogrun.gif]

and well done TOT.. that's a major hurdle out of the way!! [sm=food-smiley-004.gif]

RE: 2nd Jan Failed @ giving up smoking

I am working on quitting again for the fourth time in my life. I had some long quit times. The longest being 8 yrs., then I had a 6yr. quit, the last was 3 yrs. I started smoking in September. I was going through many family issues. Unfortunately, I have a household of smokers. It was way too easy, to get a cigarette. I amy not have started, if they were not in the house. I only had a few here and there, within 2 weeks, I had a full-blown addiction going on. I have a chronic illness, and respiratory disease. I feel so guilty for smoking. I am even sick with pneumonia and still smoking a few a day. I hate hiding from some family members, e.g. my sister and mother would be devastated if they knew that I relapsed. I just got a prescription for the patch, I will find out tomorrow if my health insurance will pay for it. I hope so. If not, I have a new one that will be effective on Feb. 1, that will cover the Nicotrol inhalers. I know that I need to quit soon. My breathing is really getting bad. (and I am a Nurse) Hopefully, I will have the patch and quit within a few days. I smoke under 10 cigs a day, so I will start with step 2. I hope this works. I really hate the horrible cravings when you want a cig and cannot have one. I cannot wait until I have successfully quit and rid of those cravings.

RE: 2nd Jan Failed @ giving up smoking

Hi everyone

i've been smoking about 5 years and am now up to around 20 a day. i got a pill off the doctor called Zyban - has anyone else tried this? i only started taking it a couple of days ago and i can still smoke in to the second week to allow the pill to get into my bloodstream. i can't say i'm looking forward to it but i think this thread is a great idea as we can all support eachother. i worked out that i will be saving at least £2500 a year so it'll be a mediteranean cruise for my next holiday if i succeed methinks!
love
Hannah xx

RE: 2nd Jan Failed @ giving up smoking

Yes I also think this thread is a very good idea for supporting one another. It will be a week tomorrow since I last had a ciggy Yay!!. Still getting the cravings lol, not good, especially after meals and first thing in the morning with first cuppa tea, im not using any patches or anything, I thought I would try and do without. I had an allergic reaction to the patches last time I tried to quit, which only lasted about three days, but I was very stessed at the time.

Sorry to hear you have chronic illness, neumonia andrespiratory problems janna57,definately not a good idea to smoke then. I hope you manage to kick it ok, you will feel so much better hun! best wishes to you and good luck.
Wow!! Hannah what a big saving!! I hope you manage to quit too, you will love a meditaranean
cruise. I think I will try and save for a tropical island holiday, always fancied that;)

RE: 2nd Jan Failed @ giving up smoking

I had my last cigarette at 11:00 this morning. I put the patch on shortly, afterwards. I am somewhat disappointed, as I had still some strong urges to have a cigarette. But, I am determined to make this work, cravings or not. I started with step 2. If, I still continue with these cravings after a few days, I will just quit the patch. I know that I still have the nicotine in my bloodstream. However, I am not smoking and damaging my lungs. I did try Wellbutrin in the past, and it did help, but it made me nervous, too. I ended up giving them to my sister because I did not like the jittery feeling that I got from them. The easiest way that I have quit was by doing a taper method. But, I have decided that I just want to quit NOW. My breathing is very labored, and I am tired of needing all of these inhalers. My biggest motivator is my precious little grandson born last week. He is so cute!! I want to hold him so bad, but I can't until my cough is gone. I am so looking forward to holding my precious grandson. I am confident that I will succeed in this quit attempt. I have done it before, and I will do it again.

RE: 2nd Jan Failed @ giving up smoking

Well Done janna57, you have made a very good conscious effort to quit. Congratulations on the birth of your new grandson, and I am sure you will be able to hold himsoon.
Keep it up!! and think positive.
I didnt think I had alot of will power to quit smoking, but I have proved myself wrong, as I am so determined, (mind over matter and all that...). Day 8, Yay!

Come on girls and boys we can do it!!!!
