With Valentine's day not far off...wouldn't it be great just to have a day to celebrate LOVE?

Imagine it....everyone being more tolerant, kinder, giving... wow!!!

Our's was last month - January 25th, Dydd Santa's Dwynwen.

As far as I can see, those people who do celebrate love in the holistic sense (rather than only sexual/romantic), practice it all the time. I'm not sure that the others would be interested.

Maybe but people make a special effort to present a better version of themselves over xmas so if there was a day to celebrate Love then I am sure it would stand out if people were their usual grumpy, negative selves. It's a question of degree, i.e. I think many would take it on board if it were to actually ever come about!

The wrong doings we (human) do has its toll on other species around us and this is getting serious day by day due to an increase in global warming.

Yes and it's not helped by Trump disbelieving in climate change, i.e. trying to dismantle the global agreement on combating this.

It's gone beyond serious. Several scientists have said we are destroying our life-support system - some giving us as little as 10 more years. And, although many people have said to me things along the lines of 'don't worry' or 'I'm more optimistic than you are', they have none of them been able to give me good, scientific reasons to be optimistic or to not worry. Humans are on the way out. Sadly, we are probably going to take everything else with us.

So you feel it has reached the point of no return then? I like to bear in mind that scientists (who are paid i.e. not unbiased) may be presenting the darkest scenario just to get us mobilised, i.e. maybe the real situation - although clearly serious - is not yet unsalvageable.

Where is your evidence for this? I always think, 'follow the money' - if you do this for climate change, it points to the deniers. Climatologists don't make a lot of money and those who 'present the darkest scenario' tend to be the ones who make the least.

What specifically makes you think the situation can be salvaged? Go on, give me reason to be optimistic.

It's a belief. I do think we are not always told the truth i.e. there are vested reasons operating. Don't you think it would be a clever ploy by climatologists to 'cook the books' a bit/overegg the situation just a tad since they realise that would more likely galvanise world leaders into action?

No. Most climatologists are taking your attitude - something will turn up. Nothing is going to galvanise major world leaders into action.

But you prove my point. There's plenty of evidence that we will make the earth uninhabitable for humans very soon. And all you can say against this is, 'it's a belief'. That's exactly what I pointed out in my post.

Well I haven't lost faith in what we can do yet, i.e. the recent global agreement to combat climate change. We can at least stop the worst excesses. None of us know the future and, at best, we are relying on computer models which, whilst showing most likely predictions may turn out to be faulty. Nature is not that predictable and we can't factor in what we can't foresee.

Recent global agreement? You mean the Paris Agreement? The one Trump wants out of? The one where each country sets its own targets for emissions? The one that has no time scale and is not binding under international law?
Meanwhile, we have a Minister for the Environment who favours fracking.
How can we stop the worst excesses? Tipping points passed and positive feedback loops mean it has already been too late to stop catestrophic climate change for several years now.
Computer models are as good as the information inputted, agreed. And, as we gather more information, we get more accurate models. Have they been wrong yet?

And? Seven years ago there were arguments over the details. They were sorted out. Now we know the graph was correct. So what are you saying?
