We do hope their lowering of priority in communicating it does not reflect any lowering of priority in delivering the measures needed to protect the UK from the risks climate change poses.
....a lightbulb moment i.e. this is what is happening with the current air pollution! London's air pollution has breached its annual limit for 2017 in just 5 days and the government is dragging its feet by not taking action on diesel fuels until 2025.

I can't see instances like these changing. This country is so short of cash and political clout to make any real change. The politicians just try to bluff it through hoping the next headline will grab the attention or the problem will get swallowed up by something else.
Most parties and local government have never really been honest with the people and I can't see them changing now.
Even this business with Trident. Irrespective of if you are for it or against, why on earth the minister at the time didn't just come clean and admit something went wrong with one of its tests. The purpose of a test is to find problems. The minister should have confirmed that whatever it was, was correctable, and then let parliament make a decision on the facts. As it is now with Mrs May's refusal to come clean confidence has been damaged and that in itself could justify a fresh vote on Trident.
Scommstech - the money is there for things that the government deems as 'priority'! I believe that the situation can be turned around to address more urgent concerns with enough pressure....maybe, unfortunately, this will entail there being enough deaths to embarass the government into finally taking action.

I know it may seem that there is always enough money but when you look at the social bill that the country picks up it's horrendous.
We have more and more demands for social care with less and less financial income. Most of our manufacturing has disappeared with a loss of revenue, the London financial scene that contributes an awful lot to the treasury is now under threat whilst our population are surviving longer and longer and needing ever increasing financial support. We can't just borrow these sums of money because we would not be able to repay the interest, especially if we are outside of the EU. The EU financial safety net is one thing that I dread losing. The international financial arena takes no prisoners. People like Trump would screw us for every concession that we get, and he's not alone.

A large part of this is because the welfare state was set up when top rate tax was much higher. Every successive government has cut it, using a mythology of 'trickle down economics" to justify the building of a less and less equal society.

You missed my point. I know that we are less well off now but what we spend money on can change e.g. putting social care before propping up the abysmal Trident!

That's because governments always put 'goals' so far in the future that you'd have to re-elect them for them to complete their 'promise'. It's a voting tactic, and is usually a way of making them appear that they are doing good, but really they have no intention.
Thanks for the sharing.
